Genus ABS partners with Send a Cow

Genus ABS is delighted to announce a new partnership with Send a Cow, the UK-based African development charity.

The partnership will unite Genus ABS and Send a Cow in helping to ‘hoof hunger’ out of Africa. Send a Cow is dedicated to giving vulnerable rural communities in Africa the hope to secure their own futures from the land.

For many families in Africa poverty has depleted their assets and in a country where 90% of the food is produced by small dairy farms and 70% of the population rely on the land to feed themselves, dairy cows are a vital resource.  Employees from Genus ABS recognised that Send a Cow fits closely with their company values and saw an opportunity to make a positive contribution by raising funds to support the charity’s tremendous work.

Through a variety of employee fundraising activities and customer contributions, an impressive £4,000 has already been raised for Send a Cow. Genus ABS customers have the opportunity to get involved by donating a suggested £1 via a dedicated JustGiving page (www.justgiving.com/company/GenusABS) and through text donations (by texting COWS94 £1 to 70070), furthermore Genus ABS has promised to match fund customer donations. The company will continue to organise an array of fundraising events and activities throughout the year, with the aim of raising £65,000 over three years to fund the equivalent of 100 dairy cows.

Over the last 26 years Send a Cow has helped over one million people to grow enough food to eat, sell and develop lasting small businesses. For every £1,450 raised a family is lifted out of poverty for good and £650 funds a dairy cow. By helping just one person, a further 10 people go onto benefit through receiving the gift of young stock, seeds, knowledge and training.

Andrew Thompson, Genus ABS Regional Director Europe, Middle East and Africa, is proud of the partnership with Send a Cow, saying “We are pleased to be supporting Send a Cow to help hoof hunger out of Africa. The charity closely fits with our company values and our role in helping to meet the basic human requirement of nourishment.  As a business we wholly support Send a Cow’s vision and the work that is completed throughout Africa. We hope to raise substantial funds to help continue Save a Cow’s agricultural development overseas.”
