The Dairy Calf and Heifer Association (DCHA) invites you to attend its next webinar – “Immunity Associated with Bovine Respiratory Viruses after Intranasal Vaccination.” This DCHA webinar starts at 2 p.m. Central time on July 21.
Administering intranasal vaccines is considered one of the most effective strategies to put protective immunity in place quickly and establish a strong foundation for future respiratory protection. These vaccines don’t just differ from injectable vaccines in route of administration. The nasal route of administration actually spurs a different immune response in cattle. This makes intranasal vaccines a key tool for producers battling respiratory illness in cattle, which has remained one of the top challenges to cattle health for decades.
Join Christopher Schneider, Technical Services with Merck Animal Health, as he discusses the rationale and success behind intranasal vaccination in cattle. He will present important licensing data around response in calves to IBR, BRSV and PI3 antigens in Merck Animal Health’s new intranasal vaccine, Nasalgen 3®.
Schneider will review studies that evaluated a nasal vaccine that offers protection for beef and dairy cattle against critical BRD-causing pathogens. The vaccine offers IBR, BRSV and PI3 protection. Schneider notes that, in general, respiratory vaccines do not prevent disease. However, these vaccines lessen severity and significance of clinical signs or effects.
Schneider earned his bachelor’s degree in zoology from the University of Idaho and master’s degree and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Washington State University. His expertise includes business development and leadership, infectious disease, biosecurity and control mechanisms, transition cow management and disease treatment and control, production medicine and animal welfare in food animals, bovine theriogenology/reproductive physiology.
