A new catalogue showcasing a range of bulls specifically designed for grazing-based systems has been launched by the UK’s largest stud, Cogent Breeding Ltd.
The ‘Grazing Specialists’ bull selection prioritises important characteristics such as daughter fertility, locomotion, body capacity and shorter gestation lengths as well as providing bulls that are strong on constituents to improve milk composition.
The bulls that were selected for the range excel on the new £SCI (Spring Calving Index), perform well on the PLI and have proven to be efficient grazers. The catalogue, which offers a wider selection than any other UK AI stud, promotes twelve of the top fifty bulls available on SCI including Jersey, Brown Swiss and Holstein.
Swedish and Norwegian Reds, British Friesians and a Holstein Jersey cross are also featured.
Stars of the line-up include Coolmohan Flynn, Q Zik and DJ Lix (a bull with UK milking daughters who is in the top five for fat and protein percent on SCI).
