American Milking Shorthorn Society & Holstein Association USA Partner For A Multi-Breed Classification Program

The American Milking Shorthorn Society (AMSS) is pleased to announce a partnership with Holstein Association USA (HAUSA) to appraise Milking Shorthorn cattle throughout the United States. The new Multi-Breed Classification (Holstein, Guernsey and Milking Shorthorn) program will be conducted by HAUSA trained appraisers and coordinated with HAUSA staff and AMSS staff jointly to provide a widespread opportunity for more Milking Shorthorn breeders to classify cows on a regular schedule.

Training sessions will be scheduled this spring for HAUSA classifiers, under the direction of members of the AMSS type and classification committee. HAUSA classifiers will begin scoring Milking Shorthorn herds in May 2023. A full calendar, including signup deadlines and tour dates will be available on the AMSS website in January.

“We are pleased to have the opportunity to classify Milking Shorthorn cows for the American Milking Shorthorn Society. This joint effort will be a benefit for both American Milking Shorthorn Society and Holstein Association USA members,” said John M. Meyer, HAUSA CEO AMSS President Marcia Clark stated, “The AMSS Board of Directors are looking forward to working with HAUSA on a classification program that they believe will allow more Milking Shorthorns to be scored on a more consistent
basis.”

A full multi-breed classification schedule, as well as a linear traits brochure will be available on the milkingshorthorn.com website in January. For more information contact the AMSS or HAUSA.
