Wisconsin Holstein Association and Boys and Girls Club of Baraboo Team Up for Dairy Education Program

Baraboo, WI – June 25, 2015…Youth at Boys and Girls Club of West-Central Wisconsin will have the opportunity to learn about the wonders of the dairy industry as the Wisconsin Holstein Association (WHA) hosts a chance to meet the ladies of the Wisconsin dairy industry and provide a morning of education and fun. The event is open to the public and will take place on Wednesday, July 8, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at the Boys and Girls Club of Baraboo, Wis.

Wisconsin Holstein Association will offer four educational and interactive stations to teach the children about the nutritional value of dairy products and raise awareness about dairy farming. The youth at Boys and Girls Club will interact with live Holsteins, sample dairy products, understand the role of a dairy farmer, and learn about the industry with dairy-specific books. They will have an opportunity to pet and feed Holsteins during the day. Badgerland Financial will offer Barnyard Blast ice cream and cheese samples will be available for the children.

“We’ve held events in the past similar to this that have been such a hit with youth, we knew we wanted to continue to develop programs like this at the local level,” said Larry Nelson, Executive Director of Wisconsin Holstein. “Boys and Girls Club focuses on programs that address today’s most pressing youth issues, and when you tie food into the discussion, this program is a great fit for educating youth about our state’s dairy industry and where their food comes from.”

WHA Princess Sierra Lurvey and Attendant Cierra Ehrke-Essock will lead the day’s activities. Over 100 youth will be able to interact with the royalty, ask questions, and enjoy some dairy goodness. They will be broken up into four groups and rotate through the educational stations. Each child will receive the book, “Mooing, Milking, Munching, Wisconsin’s Dairy Tale,” to take home and read as well as other materials from the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board.

“We are very excited to work with Wisconsin Holstein Association to coordinate this local event and are looking forward to the live animals, said Karen DeSanto, Executive Director of Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Wisconsin, Baraboo. “It is going to be a great day for our youth!”

Media is welcome to attend the event.
