The stage is set for the Celtic Dairy Showcase 2015

Celtic Dairy Showcase (a collaboration of young Holstein enthusiasts) herald the start of the show season in the south of the UK with the return of the most supported Holstein only event to be held in Wales in recent history.

Following 3 very successful shows since its creation in 2012, the Celtic Dairy Showcase is now firmly in the calendar as the must attend event this spring. An evening event, the show will be held at the Carmarthen Showground, Carmarthenshire on 20th March 2015.

International judge and breeder, Mr Ricky Barrett from Cork will officiate on the evening, casting his expert eye over what is set to be one of the best displays of Holstein cattle in any show this year.

The program for what promises to be a sell-out extravaganza starts at 5:30pm with youngstock and handler classes, followed by six milking classes building to the Grand Championship award. To recognize the outstanding quality of competition expected, a prize fund of nearly £3,000 is on offer. Event organiser, Owain Harries says: “Following the success of our first show in 2012, we aim to further our commitment to promote the strength of the Holstein breed and provide southern breeders with the opportunity to exhibit animals at a spring event.”

“Through showmanship classes and the Junior show, we want to encourage our talented youngsters to get involved, so that they can further their skills and receive the recognition they deserve.”

In what has become one of the most anticipated classes of the evening, the milking yearling class offers breeders the opportunity to showcase their best young milking heifers. Understanding the importance of profitable dairy farming more so than ever, it is widely recognized that one method of increasing profitability on farm is to calve heifers younger, and the Holstein breed certainly has the ability to calve at this young age and contribute towards the milk cheque.

The show is open to entries from all over the UK and entry to the showground is free to spectators. The Celtic Dairy Showcase provides an unmissable platform for breeders to compete with the ‘best in the West’. The showground has very easy access, with a direct route along the main A40 dual carriageway. It is just 90 minutes from the Severn Bridge and less from Cardiff Wales Airport.

Entries are now open and close on the 27th February 2015. To find out more about the Celtic Dairy Showcase, or to receive a schedule contact Event Organiser Owain Harries on 07875 506489 or email [email protected]
