Retired Holstein classifier Donald Garry Cook, 77, of Linglestown, went to be with the Lord on Monday, July 17, 2017. He was at home surrounded by his family.
He was born February 29, 1940 in Chateaugay, New York to the late Reuben and Myrtle (Hyde) Cook.
He was a graduate of Chateaugay High School and attended Cornell University and Minor Agriculture Research Institute. He had a lifetime of experience with registered cattle including membership in local 4-H clubs, President of Tri-County FFA in New York State; showed cattle in local, district, state and national shows. He was part owner of cattle with Frogmore Farms in New York and partnership of cattle on Hill Top Farm in Connecticut. He participated on several judging teams sponsored by 4-H and FFA.
After selling interest in Hill Top Farm, Don worked for 17 years judging cattle for the Holstein Association in Brattleboro, Vermont, traveling across the United States and into Central and South America. In 1993, he and his wife purchased Beaver Bend Par 3 Golf Course in Hummelstown. Don loved working on the golf course and making friends with all the customers. In 2014, they sold the golf course and Don retired.
He is survived by his wife, Dawn M. of Linglestown; sons, Daniel (Julie) of Westfield, Massachusetts, and Todd (Janet) also of Westfield, Massachusetts; a twin brother, Ronald (Melba) of Malone; sisters-in-law, Rose Cook of Chateaugay, and Mable Cook of St. Anicet, Canada; step-daughter, Nadine Petrina (Tim) of Hershey; step-son, Jeff Daniels (Elizabeth) of Harrisburg; two granddaughters, Kayleigh Paradis of Westfield, Massachusetts, and Rachel Petrina of Hershey; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Clifford, Norman, Francis, Robert, and Richard; and sister Eunice Bonner, all of New York and Canada.
Don was a thoughtful, generous person who would do anything for anyone. He loved God and took pleasure in talking to others about coming to know the Lord. He was a member of Grace and Truth Bible Church in Hummelstown. His loving spirit and sweet smile will be missed by many on earth, but the Heavens are rejoicing with him.
A viewing will be held on Friday, July 21, 2017, from 10 to 11 a.m. in Grace and Truth Bible Church, 410 Pleasantview Road, Hummelstown, followed by the service at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Lower Paxton Township.
