OBSERVER, New No. 1 GTPI Sire of the Breed, Headlines Outstanding Class of Graduates

Ten new Holstein graduates have joined the Select Sires active lineup. The group’s headliner, 7HO10606 De-Su OBSERVER-ET (VG-88), the first daughter-proven 7HO8081 Ensenada Taboo PLANET-ET (EX-90-GM) son in active A.I., comes in as the No. 1 GTPISM sire of the breed at +2332 GTPI. This exciting class includes four sires exceeding +2020 for GTPI, seven sires above +1,000 for Milk, six sires over +2.00 for Type, seven sires more than +2.00 for Feet and Leg Composite and two new Showcase Selections™ sires that are the top two new release sires for Type.

OBSERVER leads the way
Not only does OBSERVER set the precedent for GTPI, he leads the Select Sires lineup in Net Merit (+$792), Fluid Merit (+$763) and Cheese Merit (+$825). His Net Merit leads the breed and exceeds his genomic prediction. This former No. 1 GTPI genomic young sire and worldwide father of sons transmits excellent production (+1,602 Milk) and Protein (+52 Protein, +.02% Protein) with highly reliable data from over 200 milking daughters. OBSERVER daughters have exceptional udders (+3.02 Udder Composite) and Type (+2.70 Type). He earns the HealthMark™ designation with an outstanding Productive Life (PL) of +7.2. At 6.0% DBH, OBSERVER is a calving ease specialist.

Baxter sons from exceptional cow families graduate
7HO10297 Foxberry Bax MCNUGGETS-ET is the No. 2 GTPI and Net Merit new release in the breed (behind OBSERVER) at +2151 and +$703, respectively. He has two brothers in the active lineup, 7HO9918 Foxberry JS MCFLY-ET (EX-91-GM) and 7HO10233 Foxberry Bax MIZZOU-ET (VG-88) with another member of the family, 7HO11853 Coyne-Farms Srock MACK-ET, released as a Super Sampler™ in April 2013. A HeathMark sire, he leads the Select Sires lineup for Productive Life (+7.4) and is No. 2 for Somatic Cell Score (SCS) (2.53). He transmits exceptional Fat (+75 Fat, +.14% Fat) with outstanding production (+1,038M). At +2.04 for Type, his daughters have high, wide rear udders and excellent feet and legs (+2.06 Feet and Leg Composite). From the Markwell Bstar E Raven (EX-95-GMD-DOM) family, 7HO10217 Lars-Acres Felices FEAST-ET (VG-87), has no Shottle, Goldwyn, 7HO6417 O-Bee MANfred Justice-ET (EX-94-GM) or PLANET in his pedigree. He transmits exceptional production (+1,787M) with superior component yields (+55F, +42P). A feet and leg improver (+2.12 FLC), FEAST daughters track straight on their rear legs and have outstanding foot angle. His daughters are moderate-sized cows with a deep, open rib insuring maximum efficiency and earning him the FeedPRO® designation.

7HO10353 Ralma Baxter CHAPTER-ET (EX-91) hails from the same family as lineup sire, 7HO9321 Ralma Gold CROWN-ET (EX-91-GM) and Super Sampler, 7HO11611 Markwell Snowman CAESAR-ET. CHAPTER has the best FLC (+2.98) among new graduates, siring daughters with a straighter leg and steeper foot angle. At +2.10 Type, CHAPTER will sire cows that work in any operation. This balanced sire transmits longevity (+5.3 PL) and low SCS (2.61) with production (+1,302M).

7HO10433 C-Haven SUBRARO-ET (EX-93) is a great-grandson of Ocean-View Lindy Sheen (EX-94-EX-MS-GMD-DOM). He transmits exceptional Fat (+92F, +.17%F) and is the No. 1 sire for Fat yield at Select Sires. A DIAMOND SELECTion™ sire, his daughters have high, wide rear udders with a strong udder cleft while producing high volumes of Milk (+1,296). SUBRARO is a foot and leg improver at +2.04 FLC.

Outcross sires promote health and efficiency
High GTPI (+2026) and Type (+2.65) graduate, 7HO10406 Ronelee Boliver DASHAWN-ET (VG-88) is a Boliver son from Ronelee Outside Dabble-ET (EX-91-2E-EX-MS-GMD-DOM) with a consistent linear profile. DASHAWN daughters are medium-sized, open-ribbed cows that are efficient producers, earning him the FeedPRO designation. As a HealthMark sire, he transmits longevity (+3.9 PL) and reproductive efficiency (+0.4 Daughter Pregnancy Rate).

Another Boliver son, 7HO10446 Glen-D-Haven BRYCEN-ET-TW, is the son of a Very Good (85) Die-Hard daughter and from a family known for Protein yield and durable cows. This outcross sire is another high-GTPI graduate (+2020) with solid Net Merit (+$600) and Cheese Merit (+$627). BRYCEN transmits exceptional Milk (+1,868) and Protein yield (+58P). His daughters are moderate in stature and long-lasting (+5.1 PL) herd members. BRYCEN is a FeedPRO and HealthMark sire.

7HO10204 Sandy-Valley CHEERIO is a Jet Stream grandson of Regancrest Debbie-Jo-ET (EX-92-EX-MS-GMD-DOM). CHEERIO daughters are wide-chested cows with strong fore udder attachments, high, wide rear udders and exceptional feet and legs (+2.37). He transmits excellent production (+1,061M), as well. CHEERIO earns the HealthMark, DIAMOND SELECTion and FeedPRO designations.

MOREY and DICKEY join the Showcase Selections lineup
A former Super Sampler, 7HO10468 Mr Rockton Mlnd MOREY-ET, is a Goldwyn son from Co-Vista Durham Melinda (EX-94-EX-MS-CAN), who was nominated three times All-Canadian in milking form and was the Reserve All-Canadian milking yearling in 2006. It is no surprise this Showcase Selections sire improves Type (+3.43), udders (+2.52 UDC) and feet and legs (+2.45 FLC). His daughters are tall with a deep, open rib and exceptional rear udder height and width. With a Sire Conception Rating (SCR) of +2.5, MOREY earns the Superior Settler designation.

Another addition to the Showcase Selections lineup, 7HO10309 Ernlo Gold Lynn DICKEY (EX-92) is a Goldwyn son from Ernlo Sheena Lynn-ET (EX-91-2E-EX-MS-GMD-DOM). A top three Type sire at Select Sires (+3.67), DICKEY transmits exceptional udders (+3.01 UDC) and feet and legs (+2.74 FLC). As the breed’s highest stature improving sire, you can expect DICKEY to sire the tall, framey heifers that will catch plenty of attention on the tanbark.
