Obituary for Pennsylvania Holstein Breeder Charles “Bud” Morrell

Obituary for Pennsylvania Holstein Breeder Charles "Bud" MorrellCharles R. “Bud” Morrell, 82 of Cochranton passed away Friday, March 24, 2017, at Wesbury Methodist Community. Born November 15, 1934, in Meadville, he was the son of Ralph C. and Florence M. Peters Morrell.
Bud was a 1952 graduate of Cochranton High School and attended Westminster College on a basketball scholarship and also played baseball.
He was a lifelong dairy farmer and was a 40-year member of Pennsylvania Holstein Association of USA. From 1966 until 2012 he served East Fairfield Township as a supervisor for 42 years and secretary/treasurer for 46 years. He was selected to the Pennsylvania Supervisor Hall of Fame for his devoted service.
Bud was a sports enthusiast and refereed high school and college basketball games for ten years. He enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates, and hunting with his sons and grandchildren. However, his greatest joy was spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his daughter Diane E. Beck and her husband Dave of Centerburg, Ohio, and a son, William Morrell and his wife Kelly of Cochranton. Three stepdaughters, Amy Bowser and her husband Patrick of Lubbock, Texas, Ashley Kennedy and her husband Kyle of Meadville and Allison Leaker of Cochranton and a daughter-in-law, Candace Morrell of Cochranton. Six grandchildren, Jason “Jake” Morrell and his wife Nicole of Cochranton, Justin “Butch” Morrell and his wife Tara of Cochranton, Erin Beck of Centerburg, Ohio, Matthew “Bo” Morrell and his wife Kaylan of Cochranton, Heather Boughner and her husband Andy of Cochranton and Jonathan Beck of Latrobe. Eight great-grandchildren, Michaela, Skylar, Grace, Emma, Willis, Cash, Hank and Bristol Morrell and a special friend, Joan Sterling.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Robert C. Morrell, a sister M. Yvonne “Vonnie” Griffin and a brother-in-law James Griffin.
Friends and family will be received at the DICKSON FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, INC., 123 S. Franklin St. Cochranton on Tuesday, March 28, from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and also on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 12:00 p.m. The Rev. Sam Marchetta, Chaplain at Wesbury Methodist Community, will officiate.
Interment will be in the Cochranton Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Bud’s name to the Cochranton 4H Club, C/O Elaine Duncan, 22610 Freyermuth Rd. Meadville PA 16314.
