Musquie Iatola Martha – a truly once-in-a-lifetime cow

Musquie Iatola Martha (EX-96) captured her third Supreme Champion title at the Royal Winter Fair for MilkSource Genetics LLC., WI, and newly formed partner Fernando Jarquin of Guatemala. We asked MilkSource to describe what’s it’s like working with such a special cow like Martha, and what her future holds.

Royal2017_Supreme-0502Martha is a once-in-a-lifetime cow. Her temperament is as unique as her extreme style and balance. She is the epitome of a lady at all times. Martha’s poise and presence in the show ring is undeniably remarkable. She is the cow that you just can’t take your eyes off of as she enters the ring.

She’s the true dairyman’s dream, a cow that works hard and looks great doing it.

MilkSource Genetics currently has two Martha winter yearling heifers sired by Tequila — Mistress and Marvelous. Martha’s March calf by Premier —Mystery — was recently sold at the Louisville All-American Jersey Sale for $30,500.

And Mistletoe — Martha’s first milking daughter — scored 89 as a 2-year-old. She recently sold via our Facebook page, which has expanded its offerings.

Annually, MilkSource Genetics hosts a growing number of tour guests. Nowhere is Martha’s “at home” temperament more apparent than when meeting these guests. She is approachable and warm, not shy about mingling with visitors — many of whom visit specifically to see her in person. As hundreds of social media postings attest, Martha is always willing to take time to meet her admirers. It’s one reason she’s picked up the nickname, “The People’s Champion.”

There are so many factors that contribute to any show cow’s success. With both the Royal and Expo  having such great quality, we feel fortunate that Martha was able to come out as well as she did and end up on top at both prestigious events.

We contribute Martha’s show-winning success to the Dillman family for breeding such an incredible cow and to the many generations of great Avonlea cows behind her. Also, to Callum McKinven for finding Martha for us and to everyone who has helped get Martha ready both every day at the farm and while at the shows.

We are entering a new era for Martha with our ownership partnership with Fernando Jarquin of Finco Valparaiso of Guatemala. With his involvement, we look forward to expanding her international profile.
