Holstein and Jersey Show Highlights From Spring Dairy Expo 2023

The weather may have been crummy in Columbus, Ohio, but not even that could put a damper on the impressive quality and competition at Spring Dairy Expo 2023! Allyn (Spud) Paulson, IL, and Matt Hawbaker, MD, had themselves a busy three days sorting the classes. Judge Paulson officiated the Milking Shorthorn, Red & White, Ayrshire, and Jersey shows while Judge Hawbaker determined placings in the Guernsey, Holstein and Brown Swiss classes. Mid-East Spring National Holstein Show


In total, 162 head of Holsteins walked the ring for Judge Hawbaker in the Mid-East Spring National Holstein Show 2023. Jay Ackley of East Liberty, OH had a double sweep of the open show for Grand Champion and Reserve. His winning aged cow, K-Hurst Armani Dazed, took the top spot followed by his first place senior 2-year-old, Loa-De-Mede Wh Chief Bonita.

Exhibitors from Fort Jennings, OH showed up in a big way taking both Junior and Reserve Junior Champion back to the northwestern part of the state! Junior Champion of both the open and Junior shows went to Emily Hill with her winning winter yearling, Mayhill Apple Crust Doozie. Taking home open show Reserve honors was Ms Baby Shark *que the jingle*, the first place spring yearling sired by Denver.

Premier Breeder and Exhibitor of the show went to Kiko Holsteins along with Champion Bred and Owned with their 1st prize 4-year-old, Kiko Byway Kittie.

In the junior show, Ren-Row Corvette Lollipop, the first place 5-year-old, was named Grand Champion with the 1st place junior 3-year-old, Wil-San Doc Daredevil, following for Reserve. Caroline Egolf and Ellie Cummings of Churubusco, IN took home Reserve Junior Champion after Doozie with their 2nd prize fall calf, McWilliams Future, who is sired by Brokaw.

Spring Dairy Expo Jersey Show


It was a special day at the Spring Dairy Expo Jersey Show 2023. The Franchise team celebrated a win and honored their friend and partner, Michael Heath, when his winning senior 3-year-old was selected as Intermediate and Grand Champion of the show – she is MM-T Pockets Game On-ET! Following her with the Reserve Grand title was RRF Classic Tequila Dell, exhibited by Allison Frances, Greenville, OH, who placed first earlier in the show in the aged cow class and Grand Champion of the Junior Show! Game On continued her game face into the Supreme pageant and closed the day with a Supreme title added to her list of accolades!

Olivia Finke of London, OH exhibited the first prize junior 3-year-old who also went on to be named Reserve Grand Champion of the Junior Show right after Dell.

Claiming the title of best heifer in the open and junior shows is AJ VIP 5319-ET , the first place spring yearling owned by Luke Albright of Willard, OH. Reserve Junior Champion went to Sheratons Colton Shepard-ET, the winning heifer in a large class of summer yearlings for Madison Fisher, Chris Curtiss and Petra Meier, Frostburg, MD.
