Goldwyn blood continues to dominate top lists

The latest sire indexes, issued by Holstein UK, show another son of the legendary Braedale Goldwyn, Mr Chassity Gold Chip, at the top position of the UK and International Type Merit (TM) proven list. With a sky-high TM score of +4.19, his daughters have excellent mammary systems (+3.26), legs and feet (+4.24) as well as positive calving ease percentages.

Graduating from a genomic sire, Regancrest-GV S Bradnick comes in at number two with an equally high TM (+4.17). He transmits profitable milk production (+605kgs) and excellent udder quality (+3.52).

A notable new comer into the list is the Italian bred Trione Colb Tesser. Based on 50 Italian daughters, he has climbed from position 48 to 24. His TM (+3.24), fertility index (+4.8) and low somatic cell count (SCC) at -8 make him very desirable.

The popular Goldwyn son, Maple-Downs-I G W Atwood, maintains his number one spot with an improved TM of +3.54 in the UK proven TM list. Available sexed, his daughters have fantastic udders (+3.09) and have outstanding locomotion (+3.54).

Straight into second position is Cornish bred Willsbro Gambler with a TM of +3.16. This Goldwyn son has positive milk components, an outstanding fertility index of +5.2 and a lifespan score of +0.4.

In the top UK bred proven sire list, Heavenly Golden Dreams shoots to the top with a TM of +4.09. With a superb mammary score of +3.59, legs and feet at +3.03, this UK sire proves to be very attractive with a PLI of +£340.

With amendments to the PLI weightings coming into effect this proof run, we have seen a shake up in the PLI lists. Topping the UK and International PLI list is VH Tirsvad Goldwyn Grafit. His sky-high PLI of +£623 stems from his +519kgs milk with high fat and protein weightings of +30.3kgs and +23.1kgs respectively.

A UK bred Oman son by an EX93 Goldwyn who is currently only available in Northern Ireland sits in second position and goes by the name of Prehen Omen. The high PLI sire (+£579) has positive calving ease percentages as well as +0.12%F and +0.14%P.

Ballycairn Oman Pello has a direct calving ease percent of +2.8 with 91% reliability as well as being a cell count improver at -24. Combine these traits with +850kgs of milk and UK-bred Pello sits in position 9 with a PLI of +£501.

Michael Parkinson, Head of Breed Development/Classification and Membership Services added: “It has been an exciting proof run this August with the introduction of Dairy Co’s new weightings in PLI, which has seen some changes to the rankings.

“There has been a great continuation of UK bred bulls appearing in the top lists and it is very pleasing to see the top 10 Type Merit UK daughter proven bulls having an average fertility index of +1.79.”
