Genetic Visions, Inc. is pleased to welcome Douglas Lyke to their team as a Laboratory Technician in Middleton, Wis. Lyke will learn the tools and background knowledge surrounding genetic marker applications, used by Genetic Visions, Inc.
Additionally, he will assess and run genetic tests on the samples sent to the company.
Lyke graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology, with an emphasis on cell physiology, and a minor in Occupational Health and Safety. While he was an undergraduate student, Lyke researched the physiological changes of woodchucks during hibernation.
Lyke previously worked at B and G Foods, in Stoughton, Wis., where he performed general labor jobs as needed. He also worked for Piggly Wiggly in Edgerton, Wis. as a Shift Manager, executing customer service and overlooking the store’s cashiers.
Genetic Visions, Inc., tests DNA from cattle to identify genes influencing production traits, hair color and animal health and viability. Alterations in the composition of DNA provide “genetic markers”. A genetic marker associated with a trait of interest can be used in cattle breeding programs as a selection tool. Genetic Visions, was formed in 1988 as the research arm of Accelerated Genetics.
