(CALGARY, AB, February 25, 2015) – Agriculture for Life (Ag for Life) is pleased to announce its support of Canadian Agriculture Literacy week (March 1-7, 2015) through a shared commitment of enhancing the knowledge, understanding, and appreciation of agriculture in everyday life. Ag for Life continues to fund and support agriculture education programs that focus on providing youth and families with the opportunity to connect to Alberta’s farming roots.

Agriculture in the Classroom – Canada organizations will be celebrating the fourth annual “Canadian Agriculture Literacy Week” (CALW) in classrooms across the nation from March 1 – 7th, 2015. Agriculture will come alive as students participate in activities to learn about, connect with and understand this important industry with in-class visits from local farmers and ag-industry representatives. This initiative is made possible through funding provided by Farm Credit Canada.

“We want to connect producers and students,” comments Luree Williamson, CEO Ag for Life. “Educating Albertans’ about where their food comes from and the vital role agriculture plays in our daily lives is a priority for Ag for Life, ” adds Williamson. “CALW is a great opportunity to engage students.”

During CALW, with participation from Alberta Canola Producers Commission, Egg Farmers of Alberta, Alberta Milk and Alberta Pork, Ag for Life is hosting two Alberta Made Breakfasts; one in Edmonton and one in Calgary. Schools will enjoy a fresh breakfast served by local farmers, producer groups and sponsor volunteers. Following breakfast, students will have the opportunity to ask questions as they participate in a Classroom Agriculture Program presentation learning about the many facets of Alberta agriculture.

Ag for Life supports several agriculture education programs that help foster an understanding and appreciation for the agriculture industry. These programs include the Classroom Agriculture Program, Little Green Thumbs, Alberta Open Farm Days, Neubauer Farm’s Growing Minds program, and the City Slickers on-farm program currently delivered in Stony Plain, Innisfail and Barrhead.
