The USDA says 1.149 billion pounds of cheese were produced during July 2021. That’s an increase of 3.5% from July 2020, with a 6.5% jump in Italian type cheese to 484.36 million pounds production and a 2.3% gain for American type cheese at 463.645 million pounds.

Butter production dipped 0.8% on the year to 151.661 million pounds.

U.S. milk production is running ahead of year ago levels and while recent cold storage numbers imply slower demand, that’s expected to change with school back in session in most of the country.
