Siemers Holsteins to Host Wisconsin Holstein Picnic

Siemers Holsteins of Newton, Wis., will host this year’s annual Wisconsin Holstein Association State Picnic on Saturday, August 17, 2013.

The picnic kicks off at 11:00 a.m. with lunch, including build-your-own burger and sundaes for guests. At 1:00 p.m., a lead-out judging contest will be held. Following at 2:00 p.m. will be the Wisconsin Holstein and Manitowoc County Holstein programs, and speaker Steve Rose will address the group at 2:30 p.m. to discuss “Realizing your potential and achieving your purpose!” Finally, a shuttle tour to the large dairy for a drive-by tour will commence at 3:30 p.m. Fun and fellowship will conclude an exciting day, starting at 4:00 p.m.

Siemers Holsteins is nestled near beautiful Lake Michigan, between Milwaukee and Green Bay. Siblings Dan, Paul and Sherry, along with their parents, are the 5th and 6th generations on the farm established in 1890. Registered Holsteins became a part of the operation and a true passion in 1905.

Improvements to the farm and facilities throughout the years have brought the Siemers to a current herd total of 2,705 cows, with a herd average of 33,319M 3.7 1238F and 3.03 1008P lbs. The farm encompasses 4,600 acres, enabling the Siemers family to grow their own haylage, corn silage, wheat and ½ of their grain corn. The farm has 38 dedicated and hardworking staff to help keep the dairy running smoothly and efficiently.

The Siemers family grew up doing chores, showing cattle and being very involved in youth dairy activities, and wanted to give their children many of the same opportunities. In 2009, a facility upgrade to a 1970’s free-stall barn allowed the Siemers a location to accommodate their special cattle. At this small farm, the children can be found helping with chores on a regular basis and growing in their responsibilities and knowledge.

This Siemers’ purebred center can care for up to 20 lactating cows and about a dozen dry donors. The family works passionately on feeding, developing and marketing these individuals to their every advantage.
