Quebec Spring Expo Announces Cancellation

It is with great disappointment that the organizing committee of the Quebec Spring Expo as well as the board of directors of the co-owners associations of the event, Holstein Quebec, Jersey Quebec and La Société Ayrshire du Quebec, made the decision to cancel the 6th edition of the Spring Expo regarding the epidemiological risk of introduction and transmission of COVID-19.

The 2020 edition of Expo-Printemps was scheduled for April 22, 23 and 24 and was to welcome more than 300 dairy subjects and 2,000 visitors to the Victoriaville Agricultural Exhibition site. This decision followed the publication of the Premier of Quebec prohibiting all indoor gatherings of more than 250 people or which are not necessary for the next 30 days.

This health recommendation stems from the fact that it has been shown that reducing congregations is the only effective response to lower the potential contagion curve for COVID-19 and not to overload our health system. The government is asking the people to be responsible in order to guarantee public safety. The decision to cancel the Spring Expo is therefore made in order not to expose the exhibitors, visitors as well as the speakers and partners of the event to unnecessary risks.

The Expoprintemps organizing committee had to make a decision before it became irreversible in terms of costs and sums committed, one month before the event. We are aware of the time that our exhibitors have taken so far to prepare their animals, and of the negative consequences on the market, but just as the government requests, civil liability takes precedence. All people who paid for their registration will be fully reimbursed.

We take this opportunity to thank all those who support the event, let’s say to everyone, until next year. Our desire to make dairy farmers live an unforgettable event remains intact for years to come. This is an exceptional situation and we encourage you to take the necessary measures to take care of yourself and your loved ones. In addition, for any information on the evolution of the situation, do not hesitate to consult the Quebec Coronavirus website.
