The Kawartha herd made the move from Saskatchewan back to Ontario in 2011. Upon
moving to the new barn the McMorrow’s have made some changes, stalls were renovated with higher head rails and pasture mats were installed. Future plans include building a new heifer barn.

Karwartha Misty Dixie VG-88 8* is a cow that played a big part in earning the Master Breeder Shield! She is also a cow that Dave considers to be one of his greatest accomplishments as a dairy farmer and Holstein breeder. Dixie has 1 Super 3, 4 Superior Lactations and 2004 Canadian Champion 6yr for Milk/Fat/Protein/Total
Performance. She has 2 EX, 5 VG and 3GP daughters.
Lee & Goldwyn are sires that worked well within the herd. Dave looks for sires that are high in type and plus for Components. Sire that he is using today: Fever, Braxton, Atwood and most Goldwyn sons.
When looking to add to the Kawartha herd Dave wants to make sure that the animal has 3-4 generations VG or EX, that if she isn’t VG already that she will or even EX. He does look at components and the animal has to be from a proven cow family.
Another accomplishment that Dave is proud of is that he preserved through the tough times and kept going. If he didn’tthen he wouldn’t be where he is today and be receiving his Master Breeder Shield. Dave is the 3rd generation McMorrow to bred cattle under the Karwartha prefix.
