National Ayrshire Show 2015 Judge Announced

The Ayrshire Cattle Society of Great Britain and Ireland are pleased to announce that Iwan Thomas from Carmarthenshire has accepted their invitation to officiate at the National Ayrshire Show in 2015.
This will be staged at the Livestock 2015 show at the NEC on Wednesday 8th July 2015.

Iwan Thomas is a dairy farmers son from Llanelli in Carmarthenshire. His passion for dairy cows was kindled at a young age during his summer holidays at his aunt and uncle’s farm. Iwan’s family founded their own milking herd when Iwan was just 10 years old, and his passion for cows has since turned into an addiction!

The herd originated with 40 commercial Holsteins, which were to be soon graded up to pedigree.  Later they added a twist with the purchase of their first two Ayrshires, bought as in calf heifers. One of these two great cows, their “superstar Ayrshire” Teifi Butterscotch, proved very successful locally which ignited Iwan’s love of the show ring. The Thomas family continue to register their Ayrshires under the “Paith” prefix. Iwan’s showing career has continued to develop greatly, and he has had the pleasure to work with some phenomenal cows, across all breeds, at numerous local and national shows.

Iwan’s judging career was nurtured through the YFC and HYB organisations, but his first judging opportunity came through his love of the Ayrshire cow, with an invitation to judge the ‘any other dairy breeds’ at a small local show in west Wales. Since then Iwan has had the pleasure of judging the flagship Champion of Champions at Llandyfaelog Show, large national shows, and also the national All Breeds All Britain Calf Show.

Currently, Iwan is one of the team of CDI classifiers who spends each day type scoring cows and heifers, from all breeds, all over the country.  His enthusiasm and knowledge of dairy cows makes him the ideal man to judge the Ayrshire show at this prestigious event.

Iwan says that he is honoured to receive the invitation to judge the National Ayrshire Show 2015 in July, and very much looks forward to officiating at one of the “Greatest Ayrshire shows on earth”.
