The UK’s first ever Tag sale featuring Holsteins, Jerseys and Ayrshires has been hailed a huge success. Attracting a crowd of nearly 300 people, breeders from all over the UK, Ireland and Canada travelled to Mauchline, Ayrshire, where sale hosts Willy and Jo Templeton had assembled a great line up of three breeds from their Syke prefix. The “One night, one price, one chance” sale offered the consignments with a fixed sale price, inviting purchasers to secure that lot for the advertised price.

Top price of £8,500 was for Syke Atwood Jodie, an extremely stylish Red Carrier August 2013 calf, sired by Maple-Downs I G W Atwood and out of Syke Talent Jodie RC EX-91, a full sister to Fradon Redliner. Entered for the UK Dairy Expo at Carlisle in 2 weeks’ time she was purchased by a syndicate consisting of Andrew Struthers, Rory Timlin, and Ve-Tech Holsteins.

The Red and White Holstein brood cow Tegan Advent Mahogany Rox Red 2 EX, was purchased for £6,000 by Canadian Ayrshire breeder Brett Mackechnie for their Bonnie Shade prefix. Champion Red and White at the 2013 Agriscot, and milking in her 3rd lactation she will now embark on a flush programme.

Realising £5,000 was Syke Jet Black Jodie, a maternal sister to the high seller, but this time sired by Riverdane Adventure. Classified VG-86 as a 2-year old, she heads to the Andrew and Debi Mackellar’s Drointon herd in Staffordshire, who also purchased a share in her dam- Syke Talent Jodie RC EX-91 with Euan Lawrie, Lanarkshire.
