Holstein UK’s Annual Genetic Elite Sale took place at Beeston Castle Auction on

Holstein UK’s Annual Genetic Elite Sale took place at Beeston Castle Auction on Tuesday, 25th June in front of an audience that had travelled long distances as well as from the locality.

There was a tremendous array of cattle representing over 40 of the world’s leading cow families, but trade at the end of the day was certainly better than was anticipated in the days leading up to the sale. However there was no pattern to the sale with some selling extremely well and others that would have been expected to have easily sold unfortunately not finding a buyer. At the end of the day a 70% clearance rate was achieved on all those forward which for a sale of this standing is better than the norm.

The highlight of the sale was Absolute Goldwyn Adeen, an eight month old daughter of Goldwyn out of the noted show cow, Lavenham Adeen (Ex92-2E) and consigned by Graham Kirby of Absolute Genetics, Kirkham, Lancashire. She is full sister to the 2012 Reserve All Britain Intermediate Heifer, Holmland Goldwyn Adeen (VG88-2yr) that was sold for 14500 gns at the Holmland Dispersal Sale last year. She now joins Richard Godber’s Knowlepark Herd at Kimberley, Nottinghmashire.

Next at 6100 gns was the six month old Woodmarsh Wyman Melody 3rd from the Gould family at Bomere Heath, Shrewsbury. This outstanding calf is out of an EX92-3E Shottle whose five nearest dams each average over 80 tonnes of milk lifetime. The purchasers were George Sanderson and Family for their Sandley Herd at Preston.

Two calves made 4800 gns each and followed each other into the ring. The first was Yasmin Bradbury’s Peak Sid Rhapsody, by Pine Tree Sid and bred from 13 straight Excellent dams. She was purchased by Richard Bown of Richaven Holsteins, Hanley Castle Worcester and at the same price was Bassingthorpe Leedham C Seisme Red consigned by Anne Harrison and Rob Kirk of Grantham and Melton Mowbray respectively. This daughter of MD-Valleyvue Gold Chris sold to Drointon Farms of Stafford.
