Wyoming State Vet Confirms Brucellosis Case

A cattle herd in Park County, Wyo. has been quarantined after one cow tested positive for brucellosis.

The Wyoming State Veterinary Laboratory in Laramie and the National Veterinary Services Laboratory in Ames, Iowa, both confirmed the new brucellosis case.

Wyoming State Veterinarian Jim Logan tells the Powell Tribune that it is unknown if the infection was caused from elk exposure, like the rest of the infection cases in the area had been from 2003-11.

The infected herd will remain quarantined until it has three consecutive negative results and all infected cattle are removed. An additional contact herd is also quarantined for testing.

Logan says in recent years, brucellosis has been found in Park, Teton and Sublette counties.
