Wisconsin youth and adults interested in buying their first Ayrshire are encouraged to apply for a grant award, sponsored by the Wisconsin Ayrshire Breeders’ Association (WABA), by March 1.
Through this program, the WABA will award one adult (age 19 or older) and one youth (ages 8 to 18) with $1,000 to put towards the purchase of an Ayrshire animal of their choice at the Wisconsin Ayrshire Spring Sale – this year held in Thorp, WI on April 15. Winners will also receive a complimentary year-long junior or adult WABA membership.
“The Wisconsin Ayrshire grant program is designed to introduce youth as well as established dairymen and women to Ayrshire cattle with foundational pedigrees,” explains Damian Ullmer, Wisconsin Ayrshire Spring Sale Manager and Grant Committee Member. “We are excited to offer an exceptional lineup in this year’s sale including show-aged heifers to compete at any level and functional young cows that will work in a wide range of setups.”
Grant winners will be announced at the WABA Annual Meeting on March 11 at the Tundra Lodge in Green Bay. All grant applicants are highly encouraged to attend the meeting.
