Wisconsin has another record-setting month of Milk Production

— Wisconsin dairy farmers had another record-setting month of milk production in September and are on pace to set a new annual record.

According to the National Agriculture Statistics Service, Wisconsin milk production in September increased 70 million pounds from the previous September’s record-setting total of 2.29 billion pounds. State dairy farmers broke the old record with 2,000 fewer cows than in 2013.

The Wisconsin State Journal (http://bit.ly/1yFXsat ) reports September also was the fifth straight month that Wisconsin dairy farmers set a record for milk production, and it put 2014’s overall production numbers 43 million pounds ahead of the record set last year.

One expert credits the mild summer for the milk production since May. UW-Madison agriculture economics professor Brian Gould says moderate temperatures create higher quality feed and keep cows more comfortable.
