Western Classic Youth Dairy Show is Back in 2022!

Western Classic Junior Dairy Show is celebrating 10 years in a big way with many exciting changes and improvements in 2022!

Western Classic Committee Chair, Lauren Evangelo, shared, “Our Committee is thrilled to be celebrating our 10th Anniversary and excited about our new location. While the show has grown tremendously over the last 10 years, one thing remains the same; this show/event is truly ‘all about the kids!’ We are excited for our new partnership with the International Agri-Center and the opportunities it provides to continue to grow and provide a memorable experience for young dairy enthusiasts!”

Below are just a few of the many reasons to get excited about Western Classic Junior Dairy Show 2022!

New Venue
Over the past 10 years, the popularity of this event has resulted in an increase of participants each year. In 2020, a record number of 225 youth exhibitors showed their cattle at this event at the Kings County Fairgrounds. Beginning in 2022, the show will now be held at the International Agri-Center Farm Credit Dairy Center at 4500 S. Laspina Street in Tulare, CA! This large venue provides the opportunity for continued growth as show participation increases and new event activities are added.

Fit & Show Clinic
New to this year’s event, Mill Wheel Show Clinics led by Katie Coyne is offering two difference clinics to youth. Participants do not need to exhibit at the show to participate, but must pre-register for the clinic on the show entry form. All participants will be eligible to win $1,000 of Weaver Show Products. Cost per clinic is $15 and lunch will be provided to participants of one or both clinics.

Clinic #1: Washing Demo & Fitting

Friday, March 11th from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Description: Participants will need to bring a calf/heifer (one they are exhibiting is recommended). Katie will lead them through how to clip their heifer (they will actually clip their heifer) with the goal that they will advance to the next level of proficiency with their clipping. If the participant has their own clipping supplies, it is recommended that they bring them, but if they don’t have them, clippers will be provided. Participants can share an animal if needed or desired. There will be a wash demonstration with an explanation of the best way to use Weaver products.

Clinic #2: Showmanship Coaching

Friday, March 11th from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM

Description: Learn show ring etiquette and showmanship techniques and tips from one of the best! Katie is a dairy showmanship coach that has worked with kids from across the country. Clinic will focus on showmanship in small groups with other youth assisting with pointers and ideas.

Dairy Judging Contest
The annual dairy judging contest will take place on Saturday, March 12, beginning at 8:00 AM. This event is open to 4-H and FFA members, as well as college students. Click here to complete your entry by March 1st!

California Junior Holstein Silent Auction
The California Junior Holstein Association will be hosting their annual silent auction from 12:00 – 6:00 PM during the show on March 12, 2022. The wide variety of items include décor, farm supplies, feed, clothes, toys, baked goods, and even 10 units of 250HO12961 DOC sexed semen from All West/Select Sires! Be sure to bid last, as all proceeds from this sale go to California’s junior members in support of their events, scholarships and awards.

Cowsmopolitan Coverage
Cowsmopolitan Dairy Magazine will be covering the event thanks to sponsorship from the show committee. This means class results will be posted in real time both on their website and social media channels. Your All West/Select Sires staff will also still be attending the show to capture those precious ring side moments, so check on our All West/Select Sires Facebook Page for photo posting, also!

Volunteer Opportunities
This show is funded 100% by the minimal entry fees and the generous donations of dairy industry companies and supporters. More importantly, the dedicated Western Classic Junior Dairy Show Committee, industry supporters, and exhibitor leaders and parents volunteer their time to make this a great experience for all participants. There are plenty of ways to get involved and volunteer your time, too! Simply contact one of the committee members below. Interested in making a financial contribution? Also new to 2022, they are now accepting sponsorship payments via credit card. Click here to contribute to show sponsorship.

Cows, Contests, Camping, and Comradery!
This is nothing “new” for Western Classic, but the best reason to get excited about the upcoming show nonetheless! Above all, this superior West Coast youth show is an excellent learning opportunity for junior exhibitors of all ages and experience levels. We wish all exhibitors the best of luck and would like to remind them to, most importantly, HAVE FUN!
