USDA is asking dairy producer and importer organizations to nominate candidates to serve on the National Dairy Promotion and Research Board. Nominations must be submitted by May 15. Twelve dairy producer nominees and one dairy importer nominee will be appointed to serve 3-year terms beginning Nov. 1, 2014, and ending Oct. 31, 2017.
USDA will accept dairy producer nominations from the following regions: Region 1 (Alaska, Oregon and Washington); Region 3 (Arizona, Colorado, Montana, Nevada, Utah and Wyoming); Region 4 (Arkansas, Kansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas); Region 5 (Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota); Region 6 (Wisconsin); Region 7 (Illinois, Iowa, Missouri and Nebraska); Region 8 (Idaho); Region 9 (Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and West Virginia); Region 10 (Alabama, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia); Region 12 (Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont).
Two members will be appointed for Region 4 and Region 6, and one for each of the remaining regions and dairy importer position.
USDA appoints members to National Fluid Milk Processor Promotion Board
Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack also announced the appointment of seven members to fill vacancies on the National Fluid Milk Processor Promotion Board. Terms for these appointees are effective July 1, 2014, and expire on June 30, 2017.
Newly appointed members are: Lynne Bohan, Lynnfield, Mass. (Region 2); Jeffrey Stephens, Lakeland, Fla. (Region 5); Shawn Campbell, Seattle, Wash. (Region 13); and Jerry Tidwell, Pleasanton, Calif. (Region 14).
Newly reappointed are: Kevin Herbert, Dallas, Texas (Region 8); Edward Mullins, Carlinville, Ill. (Region 11); and Scott Shehadey, Fresno, Calif. (at-large).
The National Fluid Milk Processor Promotion Board is composed of 15 fluid milk processors from 15 geographic regions and 5 at-large members. At least three at-large members must be fluid milk processors, and at least one must be from the general public.
The National Fluid Milk Program is financed by a mandatory 20¢/cwt. assessment on all fluid milk processed and marketed commercially in consumer-type packages in the contiguous 48 states and the District of Columbia. Processors who commercially process and market 3 million lbs. or less per month, excluding those fluid milk products delivered to the residence of a consumer, are exempt from assessments.
