With successful careers in ag business and dairy, David and Tim Abbott and their wives, Penny and Sharyn, have made a $100,000 donation to National Dairy Shrine. Growing up on a small Jersey farm in Vermont, the brothers credit their parents, Knight and Ruth, for teaching them how to work hard and responsibly. Their parents’ support and example they say were crucial for whatever success they might have had.
Both brothers attended tiny Cabot, Vt., high school and earned degrees from the University of Vermont with help from a number of ag scholarships. David went from an intern to CEO at Purina Mills, continuing in business after leaving the firm. Tim has had a career in dairy that includes work in a breed association, AI at ABS and as owner of St. Jacobs ABC, a cattle breeder and marketer and now as a sale manager.
They explain they are now in a position to give back. They are certain that National Dairy Shrine scholarships for high performing students offer their best opportunity for effectively helping dairy farm youth succeed.
