Students from the KELC get to experience the wonders of the dairy industry

Students at Kids Express Learning Center (KELC) in Madison, WI will be the first to learn about the wonders of the dairy industry as the Wisconsin Holstein Association (WHA) kicks off a full month of promotional events and activities for June Dairy Month. The event will take place on Friday, May 30, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the KELC campus located at 3276 S. High Point Rd, Madison, WI.

Wisconsin Holstein Association will offer four educational and interactive stations to teach the children about the nutritional value of dairy products and raise awareness about dairy farming. The children at KELC will interact with live Holsteins, sample dairy products, understand the role of a dairy farmer, and learn about the industry with dairy-specific books. The children will have an opportunity to pet and feed Holstein Holly and friends during the day. Badgerland Financial will offer Barnyard Blast ice cream and cheese samples will be available for the children.

“Last year’s event was such a hit with the children, we knew we had to come back again this year,” said Larry Nelson, Executive Director of Wisconsin Holstein. “KELC focuses on arts, nature and emphasizes healthy eating, so being able to explain the importance of dairy fits perfectly in this setting.”

WHA Princess Kayla Krueger and Attendant Kristen Broege will lead the day’s activities along with local Dairy Ambassadors from around Green County. Over 200 children will be able to interact with the royalty, ask questions, and enjoy some dairy goodness. The children will be broken up into four groups and rotate to the educational stations. Each child will receive the book, “Mooing, Milking, Munching, Wisconsin’s Dairy Tale,” to take home and read as well as other materials from the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board.

“We are pleased to have the Wisconsin Holstein Association back again this year and are looking forward to the live animals, said Sandra Dahl, Owner/Director of Kids Express Learning Center. “It is going to be a great day for our children!”

Media is welcome to attend the event!
