Spring Fair to Bring Real Big Fun to Puyallup

25th anniversary of celebration of spring is sure to be a family pleaser! April 10-13, 2014 at the Puyallup Fairgrounds in Washington.

Puyallup, WA – If you are getting tired of cold weather and snow, then the Washington State Spring Fair is just the answer. The Spring Fair offers Real Big Fun in Puyallup for the entire family, April 10-13, 2014 at the Washington State Fair Events Center, Puyallup, Wash. 2014 marks the 25th year the event has taken place, and offers tons of FREE fun once you pass through the turnstile.

Families have been cooped up in the house for too many months, and the Spring Fair offers a wide range of activities to meet a myriad of interests, ranging from baby animals to the Northwest Living & Garden show to Motorsport Mayhem with monster trucks and demolition derbies. Who doesn’t enjoy dropping by the barns and seeing the NW Jr. Livestock Show, with 4-H and FFA students showing their steers, hogs and lambs. Nearly 350 exhibit booths will sell their wares, while the midway will be alive with rides like Rainier Rush and the Extreme Scream. Of course, Fair food will be served.

NEW this year is MindWorks! interactive exhibit in KidZone. Three zones feature 36 fun and interactive games to tease and challenge minds of all ages. Another NEW place to see minds in motion is at the Puyallup School District STEM Showcase, where students are encouraged to team up on invention and technology projects in this Science, Technology, Engineering and Math curriculum-based learning program.

Kids ages 0-18 years can take advantage of BECU Free Kids Admission on Thursday, April 10, opening day, with FREE gate admission from 2 pm – 10 pm. A non-perishable food donation for Puyallup Food Bank is recommended.

Friday offers a variety of options for guests, including the annual KMPS Showcase, featuring Chuck Wicks, an up-and-coming country musician at Showplace Stage, inside Blue Gate. Military Appreciation Day, presented by KVI 570 AM and KOMO News Radio 1000 AM/97.7 FM will be held from 10 a.m. – 10 p.m. on Friday, with free gate admission to active, reserve, retired military and their dependents with valid military ID.

Saturday-only features range from gardening to live entertainment. Garden guru Ciscoe Morris is back to answer gardening questions live on KIRO Radio on Saturday from 10 a.m. – noon in the Sleep Country USA ShowPlex. Country music will take center stage when KKWF, The Wolf hosts a free concert for Fair guests on Saturday night at the Showplace Stage, inside the Blue Gate. A fireworks show will capture the attention of guests around the Fair on Saturday evening at approximately 9 p.m.

The Northwest Living & Garden Show includes many other well-known northwest living and gardening professionals sharing their expertise throughout the Spring Fair on the Sleep Country USA Stage. Over 60 vendors representing the finest in home living, nurseries, garden shops, non-profit organizations and clubs, and landscape artists will take part. This year’s florist competition focuses on an Easter theme.

Motorsport Mayhem, sponsored by Budweiser, is revved up to return, bringing auto action to the Spring Fair. The Monster Truck Show, produced by WGAS Motorsports will be held on Friday, April 11 at 7:30 p.m. Slamfest Demolition Derby, produced by Evergreen Speedway/High Road Promotions, will feature a slamming good time on Saturday at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday at 4 p.m. The demo derbies include Figure 8s, the soccer game contest, and Slamfest heat races, as well as autograph sessions with History Channel star, Mr. Dizzy. Monster truck rides will be available Friday and Saturday. You’ll find animals at more places than just the annual Northwest Junior Livestock Show and Sale. Baby animals in the Fair Farm are certain to captivate kids of all ages. Other animal shows include the pygmy goat show, Irish Dexter cattle, and the Junior Poultry Exposition.

Two popular features that are free of charge to Fair attendees include amazing leaping canines at Dock Dogs, plus All Alaskan Racing Pigs. Both draw huge crowds at their multiple performances each day.

The younger crowd will enjoy two areas created to surprise and delight. KidZone, located in the Pavilion features the Creative Kids Exhibit, MindWorks! interactive exhibit, Brad’s World Reptiles, Let’s Pretend Show, and face painting, all free of charge. Tot Spot, found right inside the Red Gate will feature a root beer garden, Thank a Farmer-Ag Magic Show, and AG-Ventureland.

In addition to Puyallup School District’s STEM Showcase, the district will also feature their Diversity Celebration, featuring student displays and demonstrations. Advance discount gate tickets to the Spring Fair are available online at www.thefair.com and at Fred Meyer Stores, Safeway stores and South Hill Mall for $7.50 (adults), and $5.50 (students 6-18 years) starting on March 17. Combination event and gate tickets for the Monster Truck Show and Slamfest Demo Derby go on sale this Saturday, Feb. 15 at 10 a.m. Print your tickets online at www.thefair.com in advance, and omit standing in line at the gates.

Adult gate tickets are $10 at the gate, and Students (6-18 years) are $8 at the gate. Children five years and under are free.
