Shorthorn junior fundraiser proves even bigger success in second year.

Omaha, Neb. – Leading a Legacy Sale raises over $64,000 for National Junior Shorthorn Show.

Supporters of Shorthorn youth gathered on the evening of October 19 at Sullivan Farms, Dunlap, Iowa for the Leading a Legacy Sale, a fundraiser for the National Junior Shorthorn Show. More than $64,000 was raised in support of the youth event. This tops last year’s event where the fundraiser brought in over $50,000.The evening began with a complimentary prime rib dinner, followed by the sale which was initiated by the auction of the Shorthorn Foundation Female, SULL Augusta’s Legacy ET, donated by Sullivan Farms. A group of avid youth supporters purchased the female for $31,000, which they donated back for the auction. The female was purchased again by Bruhn Farms Incredible Female Sale of Mapleton, Iowa. Fred Ripberger, Sidell, Ill., was instrumental in raising funds for the Leading a Legacy Sale again this year as he worked along with the AJSA Board of Directors to coordinate the syndicate group to purchase the Foundation Female.

Items sold following the Foundation Female continued to receive active bids. Other popular items from the sale included the offering of an IVF cycle or ET flush offered by Sara Sullivan and purchased by Terry Stade Farms, Inc., Shakopee, Minn., for $7,000. Respite Farms, Paris, Ky., purchased the Sullivan Supply/Stock Show University package offered by Sullivan Supply for $1,900. Packages to sporting events are always a big hit as was the lot including tickets to a Minnesota Timberwolves game and rooms at the Mystic Lake Casino & Hotel. Lots offering certificates for show feed, Shorthorn art and a commercial spot on Stockshow Confidential created a lot of interested for those in attendance as well.

Immediately following the auction, a “Vegas Night” began that consisted of casino games for all to participate. Betting chips could be purchased from AJSA board members to get started. After a couple of hours of play, tickets were drawn for the remaining prizes. All funds raised from the Vegas Night also support the National Junior Shorthorn Show.

Special guests for the event included Terry Jordan of Stockshow Confidential. Terry and his crew were on hand for the evening filming for a segment of their show. Scenes of the Leading a Legacy Sale will be featured in an upcoming episode on RFD-TV.

Those in attendance also witness appearances by Michael Jackson and Marilyn Monroe and enjoyed live music by Scott Shelby throughout the evening.

“It was exciting to see bidders and purchasers not only that attended and brought bids to the event, but also people bidding online and from other areas of the industry. From the success of this second annual Leading a Legacy Sale, it really is apparent that a lot of people see the importance of the Shorthorn Juniors and the support of the National Junior Show,” said Gwen Crawford, ASA Director of Junior Activities. “I would like to give a special thanks to the Sullivan Family for not only providing their facilities to hold this great event, but also for donating this year’s Foundation Female. I am truly humbled by the outpouring of support from all of the Shorthorn youth enthusiasts.”
