The Wisconsin Holstein Association is seeking students enrolled in a four-year, one or two-year or short course or technical school ag-related program to apply for available scholarships that range from $250 to $1000. All Wisconsin Holstein members are encouraged to apply for scholarships. Students majoring in agricultural degrees are given highest consideration, and non-agricultural majors that plan to have a career that contributes to rural communities also will be given consideration.
The Gordon Berg Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a student enrolled in a technical college, two-year, or short course agriculture program in the amount of $1,000. The Doris Morris Memorial Scholarship and Bradley Fust Memorial Scholarship recipients also receive a $1,000. New this year are the John Klossner Memorial Scholarship and John Selze Memorial Scholarship, which will each be awarded an additional $1,000.
The John Klossner Memorial Scholarship was established for a young man who touched many lives during his short Junior Holstein career, and will be given in memory of John, who tragically passed away in an accident while exhibiting at one of his favorite events, the Wisconsin Junior State Fair. This scholarship was established by John’s parents, Richard and Roxanne Klossner, and will be given to a student furthering their education at a four-year University.
The John Selz Memorial Scholarship fund was established in honor of John Selz of Humbird, Wis. He managed his family’s farm, Selz Farm, which was in his family for over 125 years. John was actively involved in the Wisconsin and National Holstein Associations in various capacities for numerous years. John served as President of both the National Holstein Association and Wisconsin Holstein Association and was the first chairman of the Wisconsin Holstein Jr. Activities Committee.
Eligibility for all scholarships requires that applicants be a member of the Wisconsin Holstein Association at the time of application, enrolled in a four-year college, a one or two-year tech school, a short course program, or be a high school senior admitted into one of the before mentioned programs. Scholarships are capped at $1,000 per scholarship recipient. Previous winners who were awarded less than the $1000 can apply again. In 2013, the Scholarship Committee awarded over $10,000 in scholarships to Wisconsin Holstein members.
