Scholarships Available to Attend 2017 PA Dairy Summit

College students and young dairy farmers are invited to apply for a scholarship to attend the 2017 Pennsylvania Dairy Summit.

A limited number of scholarships are awarded by the Pennsylvania Dairymen’s Association and the Center for Dairy Excellence Foundation of Pennsylvania to significantly offset hotel and registration costs.

This year’s conference will be held on February 8 – 9 at the Lancaster Marriott in Lancaster with a pre-conference “Young Entrepreneurs’ Reception” scheduled for the evening of February 7. The event offers a wide array of breakout sessions, mini “Side Serving” discussions, and presentations that complement general sessions designed to bring dairy producers and industry leaders together to gain new insight, learn new production techniques and network with others in the dairy industry.

Dr. Lowell Catlett, a futurist with positive, upbeat predictions, will kick off this year’s Summit, with a breakout and opening keynote on the international marketplace and why now is the best time ever to be in agriculture. Dr. Catlett is one of three keynote speakers featured this year, with topics focused on leading within the industry and professionalizing the family business.

This year’s producer showcase will be led by Jeff Burnett, who owns Burnett Enterprises with his brother Jay and their wives Kim and Lisa, a 3,000+ cow dairy in southeastern Wyoming. Burnett will highlight the farm’s experience with working through a banking crisis and working with family. He will also showcase their operation, specifically referencing their recent changes to their feed center and calf management.

Applicants must be 17-25 years of age as of February 1, 2017, currently own or be employed full-time on a dairy farm, or be enrolled in an agricultural degree program at a college or trade school. Applicants must reside in Pennsylvania or be enrolled in a Pennsylvania-based university.
