Reed and Herman Bring Experience and Ambition to Select Sire Power

Tunkhannock, Pennsylvania-Feb 2, 2016 – Select Sire Power, Inc. announces the hiring of Andrew Reed and Melanie Herman at the start of 2016. Andrew Reed will be covering central Pennsylvania as a sales manager, while Melanie Herman will be working throughout Florida as a reproductive specialist.
A graduate of Penn State University, Reed has a Bachelor of Science degree in dairy and animal science. Following his college graduation in 2001, he took over the family farm and continues to manage the operation today. Located in Mifflin County, Reed-Gap Farms is a 65-head herd of registered Holsteins, Red & Whites and Jerseys. As a youth, Reed was active in local 4-H programs where he enjoyed showing cattle. He competed on dairy judging teams in 4-H and experienced great success collegiately. He and his wife Valerie have three children, Aidan, Leah and Alexander.

“Andy comes into this position with a lot of working knowledge and experience in dairy cattle genetics. I think many farmers will enjoy working with him to accomplish the genetic goals of their herd,” explains Paul Knight, Central Region Marketing Manager.

A native of Saint Cloud, FL, Herman has a Bachelor of Science degree in animal science. After completing her degree, she accepted a job with NorthStar Cooperative Select Sires in Michigan. Herman fulfilled many roles while working for NorthStar, gaining experience as a professional technician, a technician and DHI team supervisor, and artificial insemination Trainer and a Select Reproductive Specialist (SRS). For nearly 12 years, she worked with producers to improve reproductive success in progressive dairy herds of all sizes. Today, Herman has returned to Saint Cloud to provide similar resources and assistance to dairy herds. She and her husband have an 18-month-old son and enjoy raising chickens and beef cattle.

“With years of experience as a reproductive specialist, Melanie is eager to begin working with producers in the Florida area. She was very successful in her position at NorthStar and we’re excited for her to share her expertise with the customers of Select Sire Power,” says Harvey Largen, Southern Region Marketing Manager.
