Red & White Breeders Celebrate Success at National Convention

The Red and White Dairy Cattle Association held it’s annual convention last week, June 7-9, in Kasson, Minnesota.  


Red & White Breeders Celebrate Success at National ConventionThe awards banquet was held at Events by Saker, on Thursday June 8th.  A presentation of the History of Red & Whites, was given by Ron Eustice.  Ron’s presentation was followed by the award portion of the banquet. 

Three, One thousand dollar scholarships were awarded this year to, Carley Krull, Lake Mills, WI, Sabrina Long, Sugar Grove, PA and Hannah Nelson, Ellsworth, WI.  

The Junior essay contest winners were in the Junior Division, Campbell Booth, Plymouth, WI.  The winner of the Intermediate Division was Hannah Hensel, Pittsville, WI.  

The Junior Photo Contest was won by Elizabeth Acel, Guys Mills, PA.  

Two very qualified ladies were in contention for the title of 2017 National Red & White Queen, 2016 National Red & White Queen, McKenna Coffeen announced Katie Thompson, Plainview, Minnesota, as the newly crowned queen!  

The Don Albrecht Distinguished Service award was awarded to John Schmitz, Eden Valley, MN,This award is presented to a person that has contributed greatly to the success and promotion of the Red & White cow. The award is in memory of Don Albrecht who contributed greatly to the betterment of the RWDCA until his untimely death.
The Larry Moore Master Breeder Award is presented to a person who is a member of the RWDCA, who has done an outstanding job of breeding a herd of Red & White cattle, supported RWDCA programs and endeavored to promote and advance the Red & White cow, this year’s recipient was Stranshome, Owatonna, MN. 
The JP ‘Doc’ Ostrander Young Breeder Award was presented to Ryan Griffin, Thief River Falls, MN.  This award is presented to a person who is a younger member of the RWDCA, who has done an outstanding job of breeding a herd of Red & White cattle, supported RWDCA programs and endeavored to promote and advance the Red & White Cow.  
The Junior Breeder Award is presented to a Junior member of the RWDCA, who has done an outstanding job of breeding and developing a herd of Red & White cattle, supported RWDCA programs and endeavored to promote and advance the Red & White cow. This year’s recipient is Britney Hill, Bristol, VT.
The Gary Mayhew Keystone Award was awarded to both Ron Eustice and Bob Eustice.  This Award is presented to a person who is a member of the RWDCA, who has done an outstanding job of breeding and developing a herd of Red & White cattle, supported RWDCA programs and endeavored to promote and advance the Red & White cow.   This award is presented in memory of Gary Mayhew who strongly promoted Red & Whites and provided service to the RWDCA and RWDCA members.
The RWDCA Board of Directors welcomed Jason Miley, West Salem, OH and Pam Morse, Troy, PA.  Retiring from the board this year is Mike Brown, Coalville, UT.

All participants at the Junior portion of the day at Little Valley Dairy, were entered to win a calf, along with other prizes.  The calf was donated by John Bierbaum, Bob Eustice, Ryan & Karen Griffin, Arnie & Kris Gruenes, Spencer & Stacy Hackett, Keith & Kay Mahoney, Todd & Jean Pollema, Tracy Schaefer, Karla Smieja, Andy & Sue Steinhagen and Matt & Polly Timmer.  Winning the calf, was new RWDCA Junior member, Monica Evers, Kellogg, MN.  

The RWDCA strives to encourage and promote the progressive breeding and development of superior Red & White Dairy Cattle by providing breeders with information, programs and services to help track, evaluate and improve the breed from one generation to the next.
