Perrine Hired as Assistant Vet & Interns Join for the Summer at Accelerated

Summer Interns and new Assistant Veterinarian join Accelerated

Breinne Hendrickson
Accelerated Genetics will utilize the talents of Breinne Hendrickson as a Marketing Communications Intern this summer. She will be based out of the Accelerated Genetics Administrative Headquarters located in Baraboo, Wis.

Throughout the summer, Hendrickson will assist and work in a variety of communications roles. Some of her projects will include generating feature articles for the Genetic Trends newsletter, writing news releases, designing promotional materials, updating the website, working on the Accel-Link electronic newsletter, helping with the development of advertising campaigns, as well as representing Accelerated Genetics at various conferences, conventions, shows and events throughout the summer.

This past spring, Hendrickson worked as a marketing intern for Agri-Nutrition Consulting Inc., where she had the chance to edit blog posts and articles, edited and designed the newsletter, and assisted with the development of promotional materials. Last summer she worked as the University of Wisconsin-Extension Dairy Youth Programs intern. She also gained experience working as an assistant at the University of Wisconsin Center for Dairy Profitability.

Hendrickson grew up on her family’s farm, Jeffrey-Way Holsteins, a mile south of Bellville, Wis., and she is an active member of the Wisconsin Junior Holstein Association. She served as the 2011 Wisconsin Holstein Princess and is a 2013 semi-finalist for the National Distinguished Junior Holstein Member (JDM) award.

In the fall, she will be a senior at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she is double majoring in dairy science and life sciences communications. She is currently the vice president of the Badger Dairy Club and served as the Badger Invitational Catalog Chair. In addition, she is a member of the National Agri-Marketing Association and competes on the UW-Madison Intercollegiate Dairy Cattle Judging Team.

Eric Houdek
Accelerated Genetics is excited to welcome Eric Houdek as a Sales and Service Intern for the summer of 2013. His main responsibilities will consist of relief breeding and sales throughout southeast Minnesota and southwest Wisconsin.

Houdek will be a sophomore this fall at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities majoring in Animal Science – dairy production. On campus, he is actively involved with the Gopher Dairy Club and is a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity.

He was raised on his family’s dairy farm in Caledonia, Minn. where they are currently milking 350 head of registered Holsteins.

Chelsey Johnson
Accelerated Genetics is pleased to have Chelsey Johnson join their team as the Marketing Communications Intern. She will be based out of the Accelerated Genetics Administrative Headquarters located in Baraboo, Wis. Throughout the summer Johnson will assist in a variety of projects, such as: interviewing, researching and writing feature articles for the Genetic Trends newsletter, writing news releases, designing promotional brochures, updating the company website, working with the Accel-Link electronic newsletter, helping with the development of advertising campaigns, and representing Accelerated Genetics at various conferences, conventions, shows and events throughout the summer.

Johnson will be a senior this fall at South Dakota State University (SDSU), where she is obtaining a double major in Dairy Production and Agricultural Communications, with a minor in Advertising and Animal Science. On campus she is involved in the SDSU Dairy Club, serving as President and Digest Editor, the Agriculture Communicators of Tomorrow and the Sigma Alpha Sisters Agriculture Sorority.

Johnson was raised on her family’s 90 cow, 200 acre, grade Holstein farm, near Heron Lake, Minn., with her parents Dean and Elizabeth, and her siblings, April, Jacob and Ethan. She has held many responsibilities on her family’s farm and continues to be involved with the operation.

Johnson has held many off-farm responsibilities as well. In 2012 she served as the Hoard’s Dairyman Editorial Intern, where she managed the Farm Flash page, coordinated the Top 50 Cooperatives List and wrote several feature articles for the magazine. She has also worked as the Website Assistant for SDSU iGrow, a cooperative extension website, and was a SDSU New Student Orientation Leader.

Josh Joseph
Accelerated Genetics announces the recent hire of Josh Joseph as a Summer Sales and Services Intern for southwestern Wisconsin.

Joseph graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Richland in 2012 with an associate degree. He is now pursuing a bachelor’s degree in ag business with a management emphasis from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville.

Currently, he is the treasurer of both the Pioneer Dairy Club and CEO Club at Platteville. In addition, he is a member of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville Dairy Cattle Judging team and will compete at World Dairy Expo this fall.

Joseph has experience working as Assistant Calf Manager at Durst-Larse Farms, LLC, a 500-cow dairy near Richland Center, Wis. He also owns a small beef herd and sheep flock.

Andrew Miron
Accelerated Genetics is pleased to announce that Andrew Miron will serve as a Sales and Service intern for the summer of 2013. His main responsibilities will consist of relief breeding and sales throughout western Wisconsin.

Miron will be a junior this fall at the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities double majoring in Animal Science and Agriculture Education.

Miron stays very active in the Minnesota FFA, Agriculture Education Club, Gopher Dairy Club, Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity and assists on the Minnesota Royal Committee.

He is the fifth generation on his family’s dairy farm, hailing from Hugo, Minn. On his farm they are currently milking around 80-head of Holsteins and grow all of their own livestock feed.

Michael Schmitt
Accelerated Genetics is pleased to welcome Michael Schmitt as a Genetic Services intern this summer. He will be based out of the Accelerated Genetics Administrative Headquarters located in Baraboo, Wis.

His summer will consist of locating elite young sire daughters and scouting herds to find daughters for picturing. In addition, he will provide farm tours to groups and prepare daughters for picturing.

Growing up on a family farm near Rice, Minn., Schmitt gained an appreciation for Holstein cattle. He is active in the Minnesota Junior Holstein Association and is a 2013 National Distinguished Junior Holstein Member (JDM) semi-finalist. Furthermore, he is involved with the Minnesota 4-H Dairy Program Development Committee.

In the fall he will return to the University of Minnesota where he is pursuing a degree in animal science with a dairy emphasis and minoring in applied economics. He is also an active member of the Gopher Dairy Club and FarmHouse Fraternity.

Andrew Perrein, DVM
Baraboo, Wis. (June 17, 2013) – Accelerated Genetics is pleased to announce the recent hire of Andrew Perrine, D.VM., as the Assistant Staff Veterinarian. Perrine is a recent graduate of Iowa State College of Veterinary Medicine. He will be based out of the Accelerated Genetics production facility in Westby, Wis.

His responsibilities will include maintaining the health of the bull herd by regularly testing each bull and tending to any other medical needs. Another large part of his position will include ensuring that quality semen is shipped correctly under both US and International laws with appropriate paperwork. He will work closely with Accelerated Genetics’ Staff Veterinarian, Dr. David Brown.

Perrine completed his undergraduate degree at Iowa State University where he majored in animal science and dairy science. While at Iowa State he worked at the Iowa State Dairy Farm and Iowa State Swine Research Farm. In addition, he has 10 years of experience working as a veterinary technician at Keokuk Veterinary Hospital, Keokuk, Iowa. Perrine has completed several internships through the years. Most notably, he worked as a veterinary intern with Accelerated Genetics four years ago.
