Pennsylvania Dairy farm facilities wanted to provide leasing oppurtunities for young Dairy Entrepreneurs

Harrisburg – Those with available and well maintained open dairy farm facilities are wanted to provide leasing opportunities for young dairy entrepreneurs looking to start dairying. Those who have available facilities are encouraged to register on Pennsylvania Dairy LINK or contact the Center for Dairy Excellence. The Dairy LINK tool has been designed to connect dairy farm owners who are looking for a dairy manager or partner with younger dairy enthusiasts interested in finding dairy farm management, partnering or entrepreneurial opportunities within Pennsylvania.

Now in its second year, Dairy LINK is made available through a partnership between Pennsylvania Farm Link and the Center for Dairy Excellence. The tool works as a matching system to connect young entrepreneurs looking for opportunities with those who may have opportunities available. Currently, eighteen entering dairy farmers are pursuing opportunities, with eleven having at least five years of farming experience and an understanding of business plan development.

Of those registered on the site, seven are seeking opportunities on operations with less than 100 cows, while three are seeking opportunities on dairies with 100 – 200 cows. Currently, there are more young people looking for facilities than there are facilities listed as available on the site.

“We have also received several inquiries in our office from young producers who are looking for leasing or rental opportunities for dairy facilities in Pennsylvania,” said John Frey, executive director of the Center for Dairy Excellence. “Providing this opportunity for the next generation to start out in a rented or leased dairy facility while building equity in their dairy herd is a very positive step in ensuring a strong future for Pennsylvania’s dairy industry.”
