Oregon Siblings Honored As 2025 Young Jersey Breeders

The American Jersey Cattle Association (AJCA) has honored Kristin Hogan Killgore and Matt Hogan of Tillamook, Ore., with the 2025 Young Jersey Breeder Award. This national award recognizes exceptional dairy producers under the age of 40 who have demonstrated excellence in breeding, herd management, and leadership within the Jersey and dairy industries.

Kristin and Matt grew up on Misty Meadow Dairy, a Registered Jersey operation founded by their parents, Dave and Rita Hogan. From a young age, their lives revolved around the farm—often playing “farmer and bull” in the dining room—and absorbing the work ethic and dedication that comes with dairy farming.

Today, the siblings play key leadership roles in the 3,500-cow operation. Matt oversees the herd’s breeding and genetics program, focusing on developing Jerseys that excel in both production and conformation, while also managing calf care. Kristin directs the farm’s show program and marketing efforts, building the Misty Meadow name into a recognized and respected brand. Their sister, Becky Hogan, manages the farm’s financial and administrative operations, making Misty Meadow a true family-run enterprise.

Both Kristin and Matt have been active in agricultural organizations since youth, participating in 4-H, FFA, and showing cattle at the Tillamook County Fair. Kristin’s early show ring passion grew into significant accomplishments—she was named high individual in the 2007 Intercollegiate Dairy Judging Contest at the North American International Livestock Exposition and served as 2008 National Jersey Queen. Matt, after studying at Linn Benton Community College, returned to the farm full time, implementing a breeding program that has helped elevate herd performance.”

As of January 1, the Misty Meadow herd achieved a rolling herd average of 18,115 lbs. milk, 1,036 lbs. fat, and 686 lbs. protein on their REAP-enrolled herd. The farm’s “MM” prefix has gained prominence in the show circuit, highlighted by winning Premier Breeder and Premier Exhibitor titles at both the 2024 All American Jersey Show and International Jersey Show.

“Our goal at Misty Meadow Dairy is to continue growing as a sustainable, family-centered farm while promoting the Jersey breed and giving back to the agricultural community,” said Killgore. “We are committed to upholding the values our parents instilled—integrity, hard work, and care for both our animals and the people we serve.”

With their combined skills, dedication, and vision for the future, Kristin Hogan Killgore and Matt Hogan are not only preserving their family legacy but also inspiring the next generation of dairy producers.
