October 2013 has possibly seen record highs in the commercial milk market in the USA!
With a total of 18.83 billion lbs of milk used in all dairy products in October of this year, there’s about a 2.49 billion lbs. increase in the producer milk marketings from October 2012.
Producer milk marketings for October 2013 totaled 16.34 billion lbs. Adding to available supplies, beginning commercial stocks totaled 14.33 billion lbs., and imports for the month totaled 323 million lbs., for a total of 31.0 billion lbs. At the end of October 2013, ending commercial stocks totaled 12.17 billion lbs., down about 2.16 billion lbs. compared to September 2013, but still about 423 million lbs. more than October 2012. With the continued strength in the export markets to both China and Mexico milk prices are expected to remain strong into the new year.
