Everyone at Cowsmopolitan extends our most sincere sympathies and condolences to the family and friends of Nancy M. Gates of Thurmont, MD who passed away Tuesday, August 22, 2017.Nancy M. Gates , 77, of Thurmont, MD, passed away on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at her home.
Born on September 9, 1939, in Baltimore, MD, she was the daughter of the late Phillip and Christena (Gottfried) Danneberg. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Ralph Gates.
Mrs. Gates was a 1958 graduate of St Maria Goretti High School, Hagerstown, Md.
She worked for the Frederick County Public Schools and was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Creagerstown. She enjoyed her antique business that she had with her husband and liked to find new items for both her business as well as her home. She was a true student of Genealogy, researching both her and her husbands family history. She fought a good battle against her cancer and always had a positive attitude and a smile for all that she came in contact with throughout her fight.
She is survived by daughter, Dana Cessna and her husband, Wayne, Clearville PA; son, Michael T. Gates and his wife Cheryl, Spring Valley, CA; sisters, Phillis Elliott and her husband, Ralph, Richmond, VA and Chris Motz, Yorktown,VA; grandchildren, Tyler and Molly Cessna, Jack and Katherine Gates; sister-in-law, Darlene Gates, Bridgeton, NJ and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral will take place at 12:00 pm on Saturday, August 26, 2017, at Stauffer Funeral Homes, P.A. (Thurmont), 104 East Main Street in Thurmont, MD. Rev. Wayne Blaser will officiate. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service on Saturday, from 10am-12pm at the funeral home. Interment will be at Benevola United Methodist Church Cemetery in Boonsboro, MD.
