Obituary for Michigan Dairy Farmer David Vlietstra

Michigan Dairy Farmer David VlietstraVlietstra, David H. Kalamazoo Went to be with his Lord, Tuesday afternoon March 7, 2017. Dave was born December 8, 1943 in Kalamazoo the son of the late Fred and Ada (Doorlag) Vlietstra. He was a member of Second Christian Reformed Church and was the proud owner and operator of Vlietstra Dairy Farm. He took great pleasure in taking people around and showing them the farm on his Kubota. Dave and Ruth were inducted into the Farmer’s Hall of Fame in 2006. He also enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and spending time with his grandchildren. On April 15, 1966 he was united in marriage to his loving wife Ruth (Gruizenga), who survives. Also surviving are his children, Mark (Julie) Vlietstra, Steve (Amy) Vlietstra, Duane (Amanda) Vlietstra, Kristie (Scott) Graves; 10 grandchildren, Jackson, Dillon, Tyler, Kayla, Carter, Kendra, Elias, and Owen Vlietstra, Noah and Aaron Graves; brothers and sisters, Marvin (Mary) Vlietstra, Ruth (Bill) Longest, Lois (Terry) Ailes, Fred (Mary) Vlietstra, Esther Vlietstra; brother-in-law, David (Shirley) Gruizenga; and many nieces and nephews. Friends may meet the family from 2-4 and 6-8pm Friday, March 10, at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street. Services will be held at 11:00am Saturday, March 11 at Second Christian Reformed Church, 3015 Nichols Rd with Pastor John Bothof officiating. Private family graveside services will be held in West Cooper Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Second Christian Reformed Church, Kalamazoo Christian Schools, Heritage Christian Academy, or Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
