Mr. Bernard Lee “Brick” Remsburg, 91, lifelong and dedicated servant of Jefferson, who loved his community, passed away on Thursday, May 11, 2017, at the Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the loving husband of 64 years to Betty Zimmerman Remsburg. Born in Jefferson on October 20, 1925, he was a son of the late Luther W. and Eva Doty Remsburg.
Brick retired in 1982 from dairy farming in the Jefferson and Feagaville areas. In retirement he was a very busy man. He was a lifelong member of the Jefferson United Church of Christ, he was active with the choir, served on the consistory and the board of trustees, he also served for over 50 years on the Jefferson Reformed Cemetery board. He was a life member of the Jefferson Volunteer Fire Company, where he had served as a past director and as an EMT. In 2016 he was inducted into the Hall of Fame for the Frederick County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association.
He was an active member of the Jefferson Grange and was a past master. a member and past state officer of the Maryland Grange. He was a member and past master of the Frederick County Pomona Grange. He was member and past president of the Jefferson Ruritan Club. Brick was member and past president of the Frederick County Holstein Association and director of the Maryland State Holstein Association and member of the National Holstein Association and past president of DHIA. He was awarded Outstanding Young Farmer from the US Jr. Chamber of Commerce.. He was a past president of the Frederick County Babe Ruth League. Brick was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution Lawrence Everhart Chapter. He was a member of the Frederick County Board of Appeals, serving one term as Chairman, the Frederick County Farm Bureau, and had been a volunteer at the election polls, District # 14 and was Chief Judge for several years.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his three sons, David L. Remsburg and wife Cheryl of Jefferson, Larry E. Remsburg and wife Madelyn of Middletown and Todd R. Remsburg and wife Vanessa of Kearneysville, West Virginia, granddaughters, Brittany Trenholm and husband JJ, Lindsay Remsburg and Jaime Remsburg, step granddaughter, Casey Clark and great granddaughter, Kylee, sister-in-law, Helen R. Remsburg, of Jefferson, and several nieces and nephews, including nephew, A. Dennis Remsburg and wife Marsha of Jefferson and niece Lois Skeen and husband Michael of Mt. Sydney, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his brother, A. Doty Remsburg.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m., on Saturday, May 13, and from 6 to 8 p.m., on Sunday, May 14, 2017, at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. Friends may also call on Sunday from Noon until 8 PM. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., on Monday, May 15, 2017 at the Jefferson United Church of Christ, 3837 Jefferson Pike. Interment will follow in the Jefferson Reformed Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be; Bill Ensor, Randy Barnhouse, Richard Ott, Michael Summers, Darren Remsburg, Mark Lakin, Michael Skeen and David Ifert. Active pallbearers will be; Rodney Linton,Tom Summers, Dennis Remsburg, Wayne Ahalt, Robby Whipp and Billy Hemp.
