Avon: On January 9, 2016 at age 88. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Jeanne and their children; Chris (Barb), Ellen (Jim Terwilliger), Greg (Debi) and Ann (Joe Sullivan), Shaun (Anne) Coyne; grandchildren, Christine (Steve) DeVito, Brian (Mallory) Coyne, Aerin (Grant) Kemmerer, Eric Coyne, Steven (Jessica) Coyne, 3 great-grandchildren, Reese, Jack and Avery DeVito, brother, Gerald (Carol) Coyne, many nieces, nephews and friends. His daughter, Nancy Coyne and a brother and two sisters predeceased Richard.

A life-time dairy farmer, Richard received many awards and accolades including: NY Farm Bureau Good Citizen Award 1992-1993, Dairy of Distinction, Person of Distinction, 1998 NYS fair, NYS Agricultural Society- Business of the Year 2011, National Holstein Association Distinguished leadership award 2008, 2001 Dairyman of the Year/World Dairy Expo at Madison, Wisconsin, the Paul Harris Fellowship Award-Rotary, St Agnes School Alumni of the Year 2001. Richard served his community as an Avon Central School Board of Education member for five years and was the youngest president at age 35 for two years, Avon Town Board from 1977-1999. He was a member of the Avon Lions Club from 1958 until the present day and served as president in 1966. Richard served on the National Holstein Association Board of Directors from 1984-1992, and was the NYS Holstein Association President in 1977 and 1978.

Friends may call Thursday, January 14, 2016 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Stephenson-Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc, 350 Genesee Street, Avon. His Funeral Mass will be held Friday, January 15, 2016 at 11 AM at St. Agnes Church, 108 Prospect Street, Avon, NY 14414. Private Interment. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Agnes Church or NYS Holstein Association, 957 Mitchell Street, Ithaca, NY 14850.
