Italian sire Bertaiola Mincio (Sandy-Valley Bolton x EX90 Boss Iron) ascends to second place with 129 Italian daughters making up his proof. Like McCutchen, Mincio is another sire that excels on his overall Type Merit (+3.4). He has manageable stature (+0.98) and fabulous udders (+3.36).

Maple-Downs-I GW Atwood still reigns in top place in the UK available proven list with a Type Merit of +2.75 while his son, the Canadian sire Gibbs-I Claynook Dude, (Maple-Downs-I GW Atwood x Sandy-Valley Bolton) rejoins the list to come in at an impressive number two with a score of +2.54. His 16 UK daughters that make up his noteworthy Type proof have excellent fore-udder attachments (+2.13) and rear udder height (+2.01).

Climbing three places to sit in position three is UK bred Curtismill Mr Sam. With a Type Merit of +2.49, the Regancrest-Mr Drham Sam son has 94 daughters in 58 herds making up his Type proof. Daughters have great mammary systems (+2.23) and manageable stature (+1.07) with great locomotion (+2.71).

Genomic

The December 2014 new-comer, Walnutlawn Solomon, maintains his top position in the Young Genomic list. The Val-Bisson Doorman son’s Type is a significant score of +3.84, while Heavenly Golden Dreams boasts the highest UK bred Type score (+3.29). Another UK bred sire, Denmire Mesdoor, is still knocking on the top list door. From the noted Marie family, Mesdoor still does very well with his overall Type (+3.67).

Notable newcomers into the top 20 include McCutchen son, Ladys-Manor McDougal (TM +3.54). This two-year old transmits outstanding udders (+3.03) and feet and legs (+2.93). With McCutchen putting his mark on the young genomic Type list, another son makes an appearance; as a descendant from the Barbie family, McCoy has a Type Merit of +3.43 and is predicted to transmit high rear udders (+3.21) and snug fore-udder attachments (+2.69).

Michael Parkinson, Head of Breed Development/Classification and Membership services says: “This proof run has seen a Type base change taking place on its five-year cycle. This means the breeding values for all Type traits and composites have moved back by an amount equivalent to the overall genetic progress for that trait.”
