Ferme Maco senc is a family farm that is constituted as follows : Mario, Francine (spouse), Jocelyn (son & co-owner), Mélissa (daughter, part time worker).
Mario bought the farm when he was 19 from a person who was not related to their family.
The farm was not modernized at that time – there was no cleaner chain, no pipeline and grade cows. Since then, several improvements have been made on the farm. The classification was really important for Mario to get the best out of his animals. Purebred cows were then purchased to improve the herd. With the purchase of cows from good families was born our brood cow : MACO PHÉNOMÈNE MASON VG-86-8*. This cow engendered many really good daughters and granddaughters; these animals are the ones that helped us building the herd and getting this Master Breeder shield.
Mario has always been an avid fan of genetics and he was aiming for the big title from the beginning!
A new barn was built in 2002 to ensure the expansion of the herd.
The current herd houses 120 head (spread over two different sites – one of them is Mario’s family farm which has just been bought). Our cows are in tie stalls, the calves are in a closed nursery, the weaned calves are in a free stall while the bred heifers are housed at the second location.
Herd classification includes : 9 EX, 32 VG, 17 GP.
The herd is fed with hay silage, barley and minerals. They farm 330 acres, growing soybeans, barley, oats and hay.
At Maco, the owners are breeding for the best conformation while health and comfort are really important since they aim for longevity.
The bulls are chose according to the following criteria (in that order) : mammary system, feet & legs, dairy strength and milk components. Mario believes that if the cows have these good qualities, milk production will follow!
Maco is proud of the quality of its current herd and desires to remain a family farm and give the torch to its next generation! For them, the youth of today is the future of tomorrow!
Without the hard work of the family members, the Maco herd would not be what it is today!

La Ferme Maco senc est une ferme familiale qui est constituée comme suit : Mario, Francine (conjointe), Jocelyn (fils associé à la ferme), Mélissa (fille travaillant un peu à l’extérieur).
Mario a acheté la ferme en 1988 à l’âge de 19 ans (ferme d’un étranger), la ferme n’était pas modernisée (pas d’écureur, pas de pipeline, vaches non enregistrées). Plusieurs améliorations ont été apportées à la ferme. La classification était très importante pour Mario afin de monter son troupeau. Des vaches pur-sang ont été achetées afin d’améliorer celui-ci. Avec l’achat de vaches ayant de bonnes familles est née notre vache souche : MACO PHÉNOMÈNE MASON TB-86, 8*. Cette vache nous a donné de très bonnes filles et petites-filles; elles ont contribué à bâtir le troupeau actuel et d’obtenir aujourd’hui le titre de Maître Éleveur.
Mario a toujours été un passionné de la génétique et, depuis le début, il visait le grand titre!
Une nouvelle étable a été construite en 2002 afin d’agrandir le troupeau MACO.
Le troupeau actuel comprend 120 têtes (réparties sur 2 sites, dont la ferme familiale de Mario qui vient tout juste d’être achetée). Nos vaches sont attachées, les veaux ont leur appartement fermé, les génisses sont logées dans des raclettes et nos taures saillies sont logées sur le 2e site.
La classification du troupeau est de 9 EX, 32 TB et 17 BP.
Notre troupeau est nourri d’ensilage de foin, d’orge et de minéraux.
330 acres de terre sont cultivés (soya, orge, avoine et foin).
La ferme Maco mise sur la qualité du troupeau (meilleure conformation possible); la santé des animaux est extrêmement importante afin de garder les vaches le plus longtemps possible.
Les taureaux sont choisis selon les critères suivants : SYSTÈME MAMMAIRE, PIEDS ET MEMBRES, PUISSANCE, et, par la suite, GRAS ET PROTÉINE. Selon Mario, si l’on a ces critères, la production va suivre!
La ferme Maco est fière de la qualité de son troupeau actuel et désire rester une ferme familiale afin de céder le flambeau à sa relève! La jeunesse d’aujourd’hui est l’avenir de demain.
Sans le travail assidu des membres de la famille, le troupeau MACO ne serait pas ce qu’il est aujourd’hui!
