London Dairy Farm has massive fire

London, Ontario–Damage is estimated at more than $2-million following a massive fire at a dairy farm on the southern outskirts of London.

It broke out around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday at London Dairy Farm , south of the 401, and firefighters are still at the scene dousing hot-spots this morning.

More than 3,000 cows were on the property at the time of the blaze, but none of them were hurt or killed. They’re housed in a different part of the property, away from the scene of the raging inferno which engulfed a warehouse containing hay, and a limited quantity of hazardous materials. Officials have since confirmed none of those chemicals burned.

More than 50 London firefighters responded to the scene at its worst, along with assistance from fire departments in Dorchester and Belmont.

No injuries were reported.

It’s unclear how the blaze started, and the investigation is still in its very early stages.

The 401 was closed until just after 6 a.m. in both directions from Highbury to Veterans Memorial Parkway, but has since reopened. London Police still have Old Victoria Road from Wilton Grove Road to Discovery Drive blocked.

There were earlier concerns that heavy wires from a neighbouring communications tower could fall across the lanes of the highway as a result of the fire, but that is no longer a concern
