For the fourth time in a row, a member of Elmar’s Jessica cow family has taken out the award for the top BPI award at the Victorian Winter Fair, with this year’s award going to Elmar Unix Jessica 4586 , bred by the Hore Family of Leitchville, Northern Victoria and owned by the Flemming family (Philmar Holsteins, Western Victoria) in partnership with Brett Kuhne.

The Balanced Performance Index (BPI) Highest Female Award was presented by DataGene in collaboration with Holstein Australia and the Winter Fair Committee.

Unix Jessica topped all the females entered in the Winter Fair, with a BPI of 373 calculated by DataGene in the April 2021 genetic evaluations.

This puts her well above the Holstein breed average and ranked in the top 1% of Australian females based on genetic merit for profit. She is also among the best in the country for health and fertility with a Health Weighted Index (HWI) of 434.

Unix Jessica is barely a year old but her genomic results provide detailed insight into her future performance. She was genotyped as calf, her results were published in the catalogue for the recent Elmar Extravaganza sale, giving potential buyers like the Flemming family objective information to assess her suitability for their herd.
