Baraboo, Wis. (October 9, 2015) – Accelerated Genetics internships provide valuable real-life experience through a variety of opportunities working hands-on within the A.I. industry. These experiences will help individuals prepare for a future career. Each internship experience will take place during the summer. Accelerated Genetics offers college students internships in the areas of: Farm & Barn, Laboratory, Genetic Services, Marketing Communications, and Sales & Service.

FARM AND BARN INTERN:
The Farm and Barn Intern will work directly with the bulls at the Production Facility located in Westby, Wis. This individual will be exposed to the feeding and caring of animals at an operation that houses over 500 bulls. Work will involve assisting with feeding and the nutrition program, health testing, picture taking and collection of the bulls.
The intern will participate in a company-wide orientation program involving a review of all areas of Accelerated Genetics. Work will also include riding with various sales and service employees. Candidates should have animal handling experience and have an interest in animal production. Experience driving a tractor and other farm-related machinery is desired.
LABORATORY INTERN:
The Laboratory Intern will be a team member in the semen processing laboratory at the Production Facility located in Westby, Wis. Work will include extender preparation and testing, semen analysis and quality control, computer entry of production and quality control data, and processing and freezing of bovine semen.
The intern will participate in a company-wide orientation program involving a review of all areas of Accelerated Genetics. Work will also include riding with various sales and service employees. Candidates should be detail orientated and able to follow specific instructions and standard operating procedures. Our goal for the intern is to expose them to a team-based environment and work in a scientific-orientated laboratory.
GENETICS INTERN:
The Genetic Intern will assist with photography efforts of Accelerated Genetics’ dairy sires and offspring, which includes: locating, selecting, clipping, and preparing the animals. They will also assist in coordinating and hosting tours for international and domestic groups, as well as receive a broad-range of experience with all Accelerated Genetics’ services. This internship is based out of the Administrative Headquarters in Baraboo, Wis., but does require an extensive amount of travel.
The majority of the internship will be spent within Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa and Illinois, but there may be the opportunity to travel into other portions of the U.S. A home base is negotiable. A successful candidate should have a good understanding of the dairy industry, experience with dairy cattle, knowledge of dairy genetics, and the ability to judge and fi t dairy cattle. Additionally, good communication and computer skills are important.
MARKETING COMMUNICATIONS INTERN:
The Marketing Communications Intern is based out of the Administrative Headquarters in Baraboo, Wis. In this position, the intern will be responsible for a variety of projects within the area of public relations, written communications, print advertising, social media and web, as well as receive a broad-range of experience with all Accelerated Genetics’ programs and services.
The intern will be responsible for interviewing customers and writing feature articles and news releases, represent Accelerated Genetics at numerous functions throughout the summer, take photographs, design ads and flyers, assist with social media efforts and update the company website.
Besides having an understanding of the dairy and beef industries, a successful candidate should be proficient in both written and oral communications and have some experience with desktop publishing software. Training will be given in all areas.
SALES & SERVICE INTERN:
As a Sales & Service Intern, individuals will develop skills in artificial insemination, learn about reproductive services, such as estrus synchronization programs, as well as receive a broad-range of experience in all sales division positions and Accelerated Genetics’ programs.
These interns will provide relief service for Reproductive Services Technicians, conduct market penetration studies and assist with retail sales routes. Other responsibilities will include assisting with progeny photography and representing Accelerated Genetics at various functions throughout the summer.
These internships are located throughout Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa and Illinois. A home base is negotiable. A successful candidate should have an understanding of the dairy and/or beef industries. Experience with cattle is required. Interns will be trained in A.I. breeding and sales. Previous experience is advantageous, but not required.
