Select Sires announced the passing of influential Holstein sire 250HO12961 Woodcrest King DOC (EX-90). DOC passed away just a few months shy of his tenth birthday. Known by breeders as King DOC, he certainly lived up to his name. DOC’s genetics continue to reign supreme. His daughters dominate the show ring while driving profits and genetic progress for progressive dairies around the world.
DOC was a 7HO12198 KINGBOY son from WCD-ZBW Mack Daddy (VG-88-VG-MS) and bred by Woodcrest Dairy LLC in Lisbon, New York. His dam garnered impressive milk records and was a barn-favorite of the Cruikshank family. Early in his career, DOC was highlighted for his combination of production and Type values. As his daughters calved and his genomic data was validated, it was clear that DOC was a global standout. His ability to transmit elite production and components while improving type and udders was unmatched.
Around the world, DOC continues to be known for siring crossover cows – cows that thrive in progressive dairies while also performing well in the show ring. He has been a patriarch of Select Sires’ Showcase™ program for many years, with his daughters claiming purple banners and blue ribbons at national shows worldwide. Perhaps one of DOC’s most exciting accomplishments was the historic sale of his daughter S-S-I Doc Have Not 8784-ET (EX-96-EX-MS-DOM) for $1.925 million. There is no doubt that DOC’s sons and daughters will continue to influence the breed.
