Saint-Hyacinthe, April 30, 2014 – The 11th edition of the International Dairy Showcase launched the 2014 show season on April 17 and 18 in Saint-Hyacinthe. Faithful to the tradition, the Ayrshire, Brown Swiss, Canadienne and Jersey exhibitors showed their best animals for the enjoyment of the official judges and the spectators attending.
The activities were launched on April 17 with the Ayrshire, Brown Swiss and Jersey sales. A total of 50 Jersey, 13 Brown Swiss and 27 Ayrshire animals were sold. The Jersey Foundation Sale cumulated an average of $2,932, the Brown Swiss Spring Sale obtained an average of $2,823 and the Ayrshire Spring Elite Sale secured an average of $3,202. The day ended with a Pizza dinner in the CIAQ Zone.
On Friday April 18 were held the Ayrshire, Brown Swiss, Canadienne and Jersey breed judging. A total of 143 Ayrshire, 37 Brown Swiss, 44 Canadienne and 89 Jersey animals paraded in front of the official judges. The task of official judge in the Ayrshire breed was assigned to Richard Landry of Sainte-Brigitte-des-Saults in Québec. Donald Dubois from Princeville, Thierry Jaton from Compton and Jocelyn Côté from South Durham in Québec respectively acted as judges in the Brown Swiss, Canadienne and Jersey breeds. At the end of the day, the judges crowned the Brown Swiss Grand Champion, Brown Heaven Glenn Fantasy, as the Supreme Champion.
In addition to the sales and judging, the ardent Ayrshire breeders and judges were invited to the 2014 edition of the Ayrshire Judges International Conference. Congratulations to the participants and many thanks to the sponsors of the day!
