Holstein Quebec Annual Meeting

Over 500 people attended the different activities around the Holstein Quebec Annual Meeting that was held on January 29-31, 2014 in Rimouski.

All the participants meet to review the year and talk about the various topics that will affect breeders in the upcoming year.

A hundred members got the chance to be part of a classification activity given on a farm in the Bas St-Laurent Holstein Club during the “4 @ 6 Show”, some good conversation was held between the participants. The breeders and people for the meeting also had the opportunity to give their vision on the future of Holstein Shows. The exceptional hard work of the recipient of some of the Tout-Quebec Awards and Master Breeder Award was also in the spotlight.

Awards

The Tout-Quebec awards are given out to the Quebec exhibitors who exhibited in the regional, provincial and national show rings. All the results are now available on the Holstein Quebec website.
As well, the Master Breeder banquet, this well attended evening gave the chance to highlight the ultimate breed award, recognizing over 15 years of hard work for 7 recipients in Quebec.  Those highlighted in the evening included: Alain Roberge Holstein (Allwick), Tingwick, la Ferme Bergelait (Delaberge), St-Louis de Gonzague, Ferme Bois de la Roche inc., (Fiestal) St-Clet, Ferme Filiale St-Ludger inc., (Filiale), Saint-Ludger, Ferme U. Gregoire et fils inc. (Gregori) Saint-Blaise sur Richelieu, Ferme Lacolline inc., (Lacolline), Saint-Martin de Beauce, Rejean Maheu (Maheufils), Roxtond Pond.

During the same evening, Lehoux B Goldwyn Ruby EX-93 7*, owned by B. Lehoux et fils of the Beauce Holstein Club won the “Vache coup de Coeur” 2013. The Jean-Touchette Award was awarded to the late M. Pierre-Paul Cassidy, who spent a major part of his life in the Sherbrooke area and who was a well known judge between 1970 and 1980.

Annual General Meeting

Almost 200 people attended the annual general meeting held during the Association Congress. All the directors were re-elected leaving the board of directors the same with M. Denis Tremblay as president for the second year and Martin Gregoire (Gregori) as vice-president.

The Activity of the year contest the association gave almost $10,000 to the clubs. Congratulations to the winners club for the activities they bring to their area!

Formation, develop and breeding event:
St-Jean Holstein Club – Mentorat Sale
Saguenay Lac St-Jean Holstein Club – 2nd price (Conference with Pierrette Desrosiers)
Pontiac Holstein Club – 3nd price (formation day)

Field day:
Saguenay Lac St-Jean Charlevois – 1st price (cow draw)
Bas St-Laurent Holstein Club – 2nd price (Barn visit)
Temiscamingue Holstein Club – 3rd price (draw 500$)

To close the activities on January 31st, 9 barns opened their doors to the public to show their herds and breeding philosophy. Holstein Quebec wants to congratulate the organization committee, and the host club for their exceptional welcome for all the Quebec breeders in the “Heart of the Bas St-Laurent.”
